I just had my 2 58 Mayfair Convertibles arrive ,I am Excited to Finally see both of them ,I never thought I would be able to get them into the US ,I am having trouble with getting the pictures to upload .

It's great to see them arrive in the same condition as they were shipped I personally looked at these cars a couple years ago and have become friends with the previous owner since and we keep in touch. I didn't think he'd ever part with them Best of all with your projects.

Thanks for comments I couldn't have done this without the Help from the seller , He was able to bring them to Border storage in Sweet Grass Montana and I had them picked up from there .After 58 years they are about 30 miles away from where they were built at Plymouth Lynch Assembly .

Do you any info on the assembly of these Mayfairs, all I know is the talk and no real documentation as such obviously this how they were built with Dodge front ends and trim package was exclusive to Canada. These cars are a marvel to most in the US and were what most new as Dodge in Canada for this combo was the norm.

I don't know a lot about them the Convertibles had the 318 not the 313 since it was built in the US ,they have the Belvedere interiors ,interestingly the rear quarter emblems on the Belvederes and Mayfairs have the same hole location on the rear quarters so on the line it would be easy to put either emblem on the car .Still it seems that such a low production car being built on the Plymouth assembly line would take some special attention having enough parts that are different. Many years ago I bought the Dodge story book and these cars were mentioned, they have always fascinated me but I really never thought I would actually find one of these ,let alone two .I haven't found any production numbers on the Convertibles but I would be Interested in knowing .Does anybody know if any other Mayfairs were built at the Detroit plant or just the Convertibles ?

Fantastic! I'm jealous!

I will try and help you most I can as I have a lot of documentation on Canadian cars (and of course with some convertible parts, as soon as I get them packed and ready to ship). I am pretty sure Bill (Chrycoman) will chime in also.

All Mayfairs were built in Canada, except convertibles, but the US plants made some Kingsway "plodges" for exportation.


As you know, build numbers are extremely low on these.. It is actually quite exceptionnal to see one, let alone two. In fact, in almost 30 years of being crazy about these Canadian cars and looking for them everywhere I can, and keeping track of them, I do not remember seeing a single 1958 Mayfair convertible restored. There is apparently one being restored right here in Quebec, but I have only heard about it, and could not get ahold of the owner. As far as I know, it's still a myth, but you have the real deal! Twice!

The only factory advertisement photo of a 1958 Mayfair convertible I know shows the car with standard 1958 Dodge hubcaps:

Thanks David, It was more of a curious question the Mayfair series was equal to the Belvedere series and Full wheel covers my have been standard on the Belvedere also .Great photo of the Mayfair Convertible ,Its nice that at least 1 photo exists.

The US-built export Dodge Kingsway and DeSoto Diplomat models were built at the Plymouth plant in Detroit, with some models built at the Evansville, IL plant. The Dodge parts were not hard to come and were ordered from Chrysler plants or suppliers as they would with any other car. A day's production was generally determined a few weeks in advance.

The front clip of the Kingsway (also Canadian Dodge) was the same as used on the US 122" wheelbase Dodge. Front fenders differed by where the holes were for the trim. But the front grille, bumper and other front trim bits were shared with Dodge. From the front doors back it was a Plymouth with unique nameplates and emblems. The top of the line Kingsway was the Kingsway Custom, with the "Custom" tucked along the bottom edge of the nameplate and was also set up to use the Belvedere holes.

The 1954 Mayfair convertible, the first Canadian-market Plodge convertible since 1936, used the Canadian-style Mayfair nameplates on the rear fender but they were too short, leaving one hole between the nameplate and the taillight housing. Chrysler simply put a rubber plug in the hole and called it a day.

Production is not known for the Mayfair convertible as production was buried in with Plymouth production during the years 1957 to 1959. They kept record of the export Kingsway and Diplomat models, but not the Mayfair convertible. If anyone came across shipment reports broken down by body style we might be able to determine how many, but they are not on production reports.

No none of that as long as I own them ,I think the Mayfair Convertibles were available in the 58 Plymouth colors being built at the Plymouth plants .

Yes, the colours, interiors, brakes, 318 V8, options - all the same as any other American-built Plymouth.
