Location: Under the X in Texas | Google "license plate restoration" Dozens of companies /individuals do it. Not hard. You can do it at home too.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | if one would do it at home , one had better be a professional taper or have an extremely steady free hand and the correct paint might be a hassle . on line restorers seem to average around 100$ plus shipping and per dent add ons . i've been thinkin on the one below------------------------------------later http://mojoartworks.com/

Location: Under the X in Texas | Straighten the plate, cabinet bead blast if necessary. Spray the base color. Use an ink roller to apply the color of the lettering. No taping necessary. This used to be a hobby where we learned to do things inexpensively ourselves and gained a bit of knowledge and applied some talent. Now it has become check writing.

Expert Posts: 1622 Location: Seville, OH | In Ohio, they photocopied my YOM plate and compared the color against their charts. If they deemed the color to not match, which to me would be somewhat subjective, they would not allow it to be registered. Fortunately, mine was a clean original so I had no problem.

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | My last 1961 plate was in very good shape but I am not able to transfer the plate from 1 '61 plymouth to another I no longer have it because of what happened but I will not talk about it. Here is a photo of the plate I have now. I thought about buying another 1 off ebay but I am going to sit on that 1 . The Ohio BMV photocopied the tag that I had picked out to use for display on my 1974 Dodge Coronet too, but as it was a near mint example fresh from the Ohio Penitentery stamping plant, it was considered good enough. They gave me a pair of collector tags to keep in the car and officially that collector number is the number the car is assigned in the state license plate data base. They made a note though of the number of the 1974 tag as well. The picture is not my actual YOM tag, but a generic tag from 1974.
