I have 16 of these Mopar bubbleback alternators, I was going thru the pile and noticed one seems different than all the others.
Someone who knows more than I says that one is an early model, it's older than the others.

Please look at the one on the left in the first photo. There is an arrow cast into the casing at the 12 o'clock position, the arrow is
pointing towards the bolt hole. Also, there are only three fins at the six o'clock position.

Please look at the one on the left in the third photo. I see a lot of green in that photo. Is it supposed to be that way or is this the
result of tarnishing or something else?

The one with less fanes is the older one.
The green is likely paint.

Thank you for your reply, agreed the green does look like paint. Any idea as to when the arrow design alternators were used? Would that one be correct for a 1961
car?

There should be a date on the flat surface near the battery lug. You may have to do some heavy cleaning to expose it. Pretty sure the version with half the fins was used from 1960-61.

Hola

Which one has a possible "Higher Power" ?

Does one have the larger Pulley Diameter that was used for all HD or Power Pak's.

----------------
Either way - use the older casing with a larger Pulley Diameter ( it is in the parts book this way ).

I've seen green, red and natural steel stators, I believe it doesn't mean anything other than they came from different vendors.

There are casting dates on each half of the alternator, right down to the month but, for the sake of correctness, find the stamped part number and date that are a few months before your car's scheduled build date. The example in the pic below is dated the 20th week of 1968.

Rob,

Here's a couple of photos of the 'wide fin' alternators appropriate for use on '61 Chryslers. You do have one on the left side of your photos.

Thank you for these photos, looks like mine has the wrong back side, I'll have to look for one with a wide fin back side and use the back side on mine when I do the rebuild.
