Location: Lower Mainland BC | The shop that I took my 56 Custom Royal D500 (with 12" x 2.5" Chrysler brakes) is having a devil of a time getting the right rear drum off. Tey are suggesting a) the drum might eventually going to have to be cut off the axel and b) I will need a new axle because sometime in the past 25 years or more much of the threaded tip of the axle is broken off (not much for the cotter pin to hang on to). SOooo.....
I am looking for a 1328382 rear axle, which I found in my 56 Chryco parts book and also on Page 14/16 of this rear-axle parts pdf:
http://www.jholst.net/55-58-parts-manual/rear-axle.pdf
And also a 1633048 rear drum/hub (there should be a left and right PN but I can't find it). I need a right rear preferably in spec, i.e. not over 12.090".
Any one?
(fingers crossed)

Location: Lakeland, Florida | Dave, A lot of "mechanics" are not aware that a "Hub Puller" MUST be used on a 1956 Dodge rear hubs to expose the brakes and wheel cylinders. A lot of hubs have been ruined by those who do not know better. Bruce at Dodge1956@aol.com |

They used a tiny tiny screw-type hub puller like this at first. Nothing.
Then they tried a big slide hammer (plus heat, plus pentrating oil, etc.) Nothing.
Like this but attached to the brake drum:
What they never tried was a proper man's hub puller. Like these:
In end they gave up and we crossed our fingers that the wheel cylinder was still good and would hold fluid and pressure. (It did). (the other side brake shoes were good so fingers crossed on those too).
In the meantime, I bought a D500 rear drum and a pair of D500 axles from Don Petty in Arizona (thanks Don).
