Hello all helpful FL gurus:

We have found a highly skilled seamstress to stitch our interior, and are researching having our seats recovered in factory style cloth, and have a few questions.

Are there any suppliers of an original style cloth, that WON'T give us a run around for a year, or randomly bill us for unagreed upon charges?
We have only this winter's "downtime" to get her ready for shows.

Second, we wish to change the "tone" from "Beige" to "grey", to match the brushed aluminum, chrome, and paint on the door panels, steering column, and dash. The "infection/pus" "sunflower/spanish gold" exterior paint color is just gross, even polished, so we want to go to a "Charcoal Grey" metallic, as found on our column and interior, and the top of our doors.. So, a factory paint.

The exterior yellow is original color, yes, but so darn gross, no matter how much we have tried hard to accept it. We HAVE tried.

Interestingly, when the "beige" interior cloth was photographed with a flash, it shows as a very grey cloth, like what we would like to find! Yes, this IS the very same piece of fabric!!

Even if a fabric is fairly "close" in pattern and weave that would be sufficient. We aren't building a concourse car. Just lavishing her with a LOT more love(and LOTS more money) than she has seen in 25+ years...

And all of the "patterned" cloth in the interior will be replaced, door cards and seats, so it all matches.

Thanks for any advice, input, or leads...

Chris, you may want to try Original Auto Interiors and see if they have NOS fabric for it...

SMS auto fabrics are the only ones have the correct material as they have looms to make it up themselves , and yes they will bill you ahead of time and probably charge you extra for postage once they have your card details ! Welcome to forward look land !
When you own a 58 Desoto there isn't to many options for anything !

I have owned 2 x Spanish Gold desotos which is the same colour as yours , and I agree its terrible , I couldn't come at it either . I mixed up pastel yellow for my car .

I've ordered a couple sets of seat covers from OAI. Never had any over charging and it didn't take very long. As long as you are only ordering material and not having something made, I don't see you waiting long. Ordering door panels from SMS to be made took well over a year but there were no charges added and they did turn out very nice.

As far as exterior colors go. My first car a 57 Chevy coupe was special ordered by an old lady down the street. IT WAS 2 HORRIBLE PASTEL COLORS[pink/yellow]. Has to be the ugliest color combo I ever saw. I bought it and used a roller that day to cover it in primer. IF I could get a hold of that car now, I would put it back to original just because of how ugly and rare it was.

I recently bought a 61 Galaxie that was totally loaded + big block. It was an Arizona car with 60,000 miles but it was a lite pastel yellow["butternut", I think?]. Any other color I might still have it but it was too original to paint yet the color was not rare. It had to go.
