Okay, so it looks like this car was originally all black. AA 1. I'll continue to decode this, but feel free to review and reply as needed. Your help is MUCH appreciated.

When I pulled the glove box, I also noticed some names written on the back. It's hard to make out, but it looks like both names were written by the same person. It looks like R. Sphersby and M. Brhit. Are there any significance to the names written on the glove box? Are these signatures from the inspectors?

I question the accuracy of the tags on these cars. Not sure about build sheets, etc. though. My '59 DeSoto Firesweep (as were all Firesweep sedans) built at the Dodge plant. My tag shows my car to be code CCC solid color blue with standard blue cloth/vinyl interior yet it has the two-tone white top and color sweep plus the upgraded blue Firedome interior. It is factory original with only 23,000 miles so I cannot fathom anything done differently to the car since it was built.

Under these pretenses, I will bet that your car was built as a two-tone automobile as was mine.

Your car was built as an all black car. At some point, it was two-toned by a previous owner. I'm willing to bet that the interior was also redone. One way of possibly determining this is to look at the firewall where the heater housing is mounted. Is it yellow or black ? I would bet that it's black, since who ever two-toned the car probably didn't do a body off restoration. If they had, or if the car started life as a two tone, the firewall would be yellow.

Viper Guy - I would trust the data plate, despite the fact that your car only has 23K. Lots of things could have happened after it left the factory, including the dealership that originally sold the car giving it a two tone treatment at the request of the purchaser.

Are you guys finding these on top of the gloveboxes? I recently found one under my rear package tray while installing a new rear speaker.

61_Imperial,
Yes, I've found mine on top of the glovebox. That's good to hear that these might be located in other areas of the car. So there's hope for those who didn't find it taped to the top of the glovebox. Thanks so much for the tip!!!
It's getting nice again. I'm looking forward (or Forward Looking) to the car shows and cruises this spring. Ron
