Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | I need a OEM 3.55 Ring and pinion for an 8.75 rear axle. It should have a pentastar or the word Formate stamped on the gear. If anyone has a one or knows where I can get it please message me.

Regular Posts: 59 | We need to know which case you have. Is this for a pre-62 case, or 62+, in which case there are three unique R&Ps. Tell us the last three digits of the casting number on your center-section.

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | The axle is out of a 69 roadrunner. I can take a 489 or a 742. I have the 742 in there now but the axle shop can swap the pig for me and make either set work. The important part is that it's OEM. All the current copies are hit or miss with axle whine. You can't trust any of them.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | I really think you will be better off just purchasing an entire center section all ready setup. You can usually find them in your local craigslist and just go pick them up. I have swapped used gears from the swap meet or craigslist on dozens of occasions without ever tearing them apart and never had issues with gear noise. I have a set in my garage that I picked up this way.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | if its setup correctly a good set from someone like us gear , nitro or richmond there should be absolutely no problems . the most common mistake replacing gears is getting the right people to do the install , period! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i won't even tell ya how the local mopar repair told me how they do it , just plain crazy ---------------------------------later

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | Well I got a new gear and had the Ring and Pinion Shop of Waterford do the install. They worked this axle before and it was fine. I have put about 100 miles on it and it's making bad vibrating noises at highway speeds. It's going back in next week. It feels like the axles are resonating or something. It vibrates so much it will slow the car down! /sigh....
