Veteran Posts: 161 Location: Pearland, Texas, McPherson, Kansas | Hey guys, so I replaced my fuel pump a few months ago and I've been having a problem. No matter what gasket I put on the side that connects the fuel pump to the spacer, it always leaks around the bottom. Is there any surefire way to stop this leak? Jacob

I run my finger under where the fuel pump and spacer meet at the gasket, and my finger gets coated in oil every time. I run the same finger where the spacer meets with the block and under that one, there is never any oil. It is always bone dry. I cut my own gaskets out of the blue material that felpro includes in their "make a gasket" kit. I coat each gasket with a layer of black sealant every time. Jacob

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9666 Location: So. Cal | The only answer is to pull it back off and check it. I have the same setup on many of my cars and don't have an issue. But I wouldn't bother to make your own gaskets here unless you are really tight on money. The fuel pump gasket didn't change all the way into the early 90's.

The fuel pump gasket didn't change all the way into the early 90's. its not the money that is making me make them, its actual gasket thickness. The store made ones are super thin and while I am working this issue, its cheaper for me to make 42 decently thick gaskets for 6 dollars, than pay 1.99 for every razor thin one at the parts store. Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | Do the bolt holes in the spacer go all the way through or have a bottom? Thinking the bolts might be bottomed out and not fully compressing the gasket. If you're using just the gasket with no sealer, try a thin coat of RTV on both sides of the gasket.
