Extreme Veteran Posts: 360 | the old wires are different from todays wires. I see the old style OE wires on ebay. If you have any modern electronics in the car the old wires may cause some noise.

Expert Posts: 3068 Location: N.W. Fla. | Can interfere with electronics & possible buzz on radios. Reportedly not compatable with Pertronix II ignition (OK with regular Pertronics).

Reportedly not compatable with Pertronix II ignition (OK with regular Pertronics). I just experienced that problem with my tried and true HEI modules too. With over 12 different vehicles that I have used them on, I have never had one fail. I had a no-spark issue on my '70 Satellite, but it turned out to be a low voltage condition because of a bad bulkhead connector. But I recently installed a copper core coil wire on my '58 Dodge that ended up sparking across to the metal distributor advance tube, through the insulation of the wire. It was about 1/2" away from the tube, but that didn't stop it from arcing there. What's worse is that in doing so, it fried my ignition module. Bogus. Needless to say, I yanked that coil wire out of there and replaced it with a standard version. So I don't recommend them for any electronic ignition systems.

Regular Posts: 51 Location: Grass Valley,CA. | Success !!!! I benched the distributor today so I could accurately set the dual points to 17. They were set at about 28 :-( .. My new wire set came from Atlas so I had time to install them on the passenger side only but BAM....the engine came alive and started running on all 8 for once. Plug #4, 6, and 8 were very oily and not firing. I guess the old plug wire set was not delivering the juice to the plugs. A big cloud of smoke blew out of the pass side and then the engine smoothed out and the smoking stopped. WooHoo !
