I sold my highly optioned '59 Custom Royal 4 dr Sedan awhile back and ended up really missing it. So.... I began a search for another.

I picked up a '59 Coronet 4 dr Sedan over the weekend in Oklahoma. According to the guy I got it from it was a barn find from Arkansas found by the owner before him. A lady who had it in the barn sold it to that guy who did some work to it(I have all the receipts). That guy sold it to the guy I got if from and I traded my 1980 Power Wagon for it.

He installed a 1974 400/727 with new Holley 4 bbl/Edelbrock Performer Intake, headers, new dual exhaust and Flow Masters, new Lokar floor shifter (bypassing the push buttons), 4 wheel disc brakes conversion kit with new rubber and metal lines, new gas tank, new rear springs/shocks, rebuilt front end, new aluminum radiator, rewire kit.

The floors and trunk are solid. All doors and windows work, Lights/turn signals work, speedometer and gauges work. Runs and drive great!

I couldn't find the build sheet on the glove box liner but from my detective work it appears it was originally an all white car with blue interior. Data plate has XX1 under paint. Still has the original white paint in great shape with blue added on at some point. Interior has been dyed black and red.

Options seem to be, AM Radio, dual mirrors, P/S, Door Edge Guards, Automatic Trans, don't know what the original engine was, hood ornament. It has reverse lights but can't verify if it had them from the factory.

Sounds like a good score, James! Post some photos when you get the chance.
Do you plan on leaving it as is or do make any changes to her?

I eventually would like to redo where the blue paint is because it's not great quality. The original white will buff and be shiney. Not sure what color I'll go with where the blue is. I don't want to keep it all white like it came from factory though. Cloth headliner will eventually need redone. Going to figure out what wheels I want on it. Need to finish the wiring that was started. Get trunk mat or carpet(my Custom Royal still had the original factory trunk mat in it!)

Since it's already been modified I don't have to worry about total originality but probably won't change too much else. I'll enjoy driving it for now and do stuff as I go.

Anyone know how to remove the horn ring? I want to remove the red paint and go back chrome.... since chrome is my favorite color.

Hey James,

Nice to see another '59 Coronet in Texas! I am not sure what area you are, I am in the Austin Area. Ive seen that car on our local cragslist for awhile. My Coronet is a flathead 6 and 3/tree.

The spray paint chrome is interesting. I would start with paint stripper from Home Depot.
It also appears the seats are from a '58 dodge. The 59 did not have the inset in the middle.

I'm in East TX. I used to visit a friend in Austin a few years ago before him and his wife moved to Maryland. Would come thru Round Rock on the way, just south of you.

I saw it on Dallas Craigslist. It was the only car I ever saw that looked better in person than in pics! I didn't have money to buy it but had a really cool 1980 Power Wagon I traded. I loved that truck and didn't really intend to get rid of it. But had a hankering to get another '59 Dodge and saw that one. They don't become available very often. So... here I am!

The seats may very well be from a '58. They are in really great shape. I strongly suspect the rear bumper is from a '58 as well. Maybe there was a donor car at some point.....? I would like to have a '59 bumper at some point to have the license holder and longer pieces under the tail lights.

Does anyone know if the door panels are from '59?

They don't look quite right. However the trim on the side looks like a royal. Seems like its had some "upgrades"

See the trim on my '59.

Thanx Wiz!!

After even further investigation I believe the car has the "Convenience Package" since it has handbrake/map/glovebox/trunk lights. And you can tell at one time it had windshield washer jets which was part of that package as well.

I have a question if anyone can answer it. Are the ribbed trim pieces under the tip of the rear fins only chrome on Custom Royals? I see alot of Coronets that are painted instead....? Here's my old Custom Royal's.

Nope. They were just an option. The chrome fin caps (rather than paint) and the scallops were an option.

Also, the hood ornament was an option as well. You could get both options on even the most base model coronet.

Dpolara..... BEAUTIFUL car!!

I had plans to fully restore my Custom Royal since it had so many rare options... but life dictated otherwise. I'm very thankful to have found another '59 since they are so hard to come by in any configuration. I'm different than most in that I really like the 4 doors. I guess growing up in a somewhat large family(4 kids, 2 parents) I am partial to 4 doors and wagons since that's all we had during my "formative years".

In downtown Marshall, TX, where I live, they have a big cruise in 2nd Saturdays from March-Oct. If I don't get up to the Metroplex any time soon perhaps you can drive your's here. I would absolutely love to see it in real life! The invitation is open to all!!

texas383 - I'm glad to see I'm not the only one rockin' the 4dr Sedans. If I hear one more person tell me that "I have 4 things wrong with my car", watch out! Although I was originally looking for a 2dr, I'm starting to really like the 4dr. I think they are actually starting to become more popular with collectors too.

Yup, I come from a large family too (8 kids, 2 parents). So by that logic, I should actually be sportin' a Sierra Spectator Wagon. Mine will be ready for the road by next spring, so I'm looking forward to a trip to Marshall.

Thanks! Dpolara
