Still trying to get my car passed for rego..

Next one is my side and rear windows just say "armour lute" and "roklite" while the front windshield says "duplate" safety glass. Is it only the front that has safety glass or by 1958 it was all safety glass?

If you look on the edge of the glass and see the clear plastic center between two sheets, it IS safety glass. US auto industry standardized safety glass all around the car in 1933. Surely down under...........

Yeah I brought this car over from the US... I'm pretty sure our Oz cars were released with safety glass around the same time because GM and Ford based here as well.

I did the old trick of putting a flame near the glass and seeing how many reflections were in the glass and there were 2 strong ones and one weak reflection..

this stuff doesn't "shatter" like modern safety glass. It will cut you like a knife. It cracks like old glass.

I know the front is safety glass(old style). I think the side shatters...

Don't quote me, but I believe the proper terms are "Laminate safety glass" and "Tempered safety glass". I have also seen the term "Safety plate" used for the laminated glass.

Matte, are you trying to make sure it passes on a first inspection?

Myself, I would run it through and let them tell you what needs to be done.

Pretty sure all the glass in your car will be laminated, these days, they want toughened glass

Laminate breaks into shards, toughed breaks into diamonds.

I think (means I don't know for sure) they only make you change it if you have to do a full on ADR compliance, you shouldn't have to.

Its cheaper to pay for 2 inspections than to try and ADR the car without knowing what they really want you to change
