I have both, but you will have to buy the whole car to get them and I am in Perth Western Australia

The radio shouldn't be to hard to find, but like all the potmetal stuff, condition is everything.

The aero wheels do come up on ebay every so often, but try to get one complete with the horn parts, the switch itself is easy
but the aluminium plate that mounts the bar to the switch is unique to the 60 aero wheel (maybe 61 as well?)

I have 2 wheels and both have cost me (including shipping) about $1000

Happy hunting

My car has power steering,so I would need the square one. the round one was an option for manual steering cars.

There is an Aero wheel in near mint condition in black on ebay right now,but the seller wants $2,500 for it,which is too much. My concern would also be that if I bought an "nos" one it would start crumbling in use.

Look at how much it is to recast one and that price comes into relevance, especially because its complete and the horn bar is in excellent condition

This is my NOS aero (suppose it isn't now) having a short run in my dodge. The dodge now has a dodge wheel in it

If my Plymouth was in the US, it would have been made into soup cans long ago

That's a beautiful car you've got there. I really like the color. As an American its unusual to see a right hand drive Forward Look car,and your models are unique as they are a combination of both Dodge and Plymouth models. Sadly your comment about "soup cans" isn't far off. people seem to scoff at classic cars that have more than two doors. thankfully that trend is starting to reverse itself,if for no other reason than the fact that two door hardtops are no longer easy to find or reasonably priced in most cases.

I have checked around and getting an Aero wheel recast is around $1,400-$1,600 and I have seen "square" aero wheels in driver condition with cracks go for as little as $400 recently. I would be happy with something that isn't perfect but can be driven around with for a while and recast later.

EBAY! and I never said it was a common occurance, but there have been three that sold recently (within 6 months) within the $400-$600 price range. One was a black driver quality Square aero that sold for $455 and the person who bought it relisted it two weeks later and sold it for $700 buy it now,he even used the same photos the seller he bought it from used to sell it again, lol. Ebay doesn't seem to keep records of auctions 3 months or more back anymore. Heres a nice round aero one though that sold on Dec 14th for $400 the item number is 302166644577. There is also an ebay link on this site in the "parts for sale" section from a member who listed his aero wheel on ebay and it went for $589,it of course needed restoration. I also saw a super nice 1960 Dodge glitter wheel that went for $599.99 buy it now but that was 8 months back. I always seem to see these AFTER they have sold when it doesn't do me any good.

Again,I didn't say this is a common occurance but its like anything else,if you keep watching and are in the right place at the right time you can sometimes get a deal. sometimes people put something for a low buy it now,or sometimes for whatever reason it doesn't bid up high. I found a nice clean 1959 Plymouth steering wheel in an antique store about 7 months ago for $35.00 plus tax,the tag just said "old steering wheel". that was a great find!

I have seen the horn bar for sale at about $700 (good one) a while ago

Some of the recasts (the cheaper one) are done as a one piece cast and the centre and spokes are painted. The 2 peice casting (like factory) is coloured resin for the centre and spokes, thats $1800 or so + core

Thats why the one on ebay isnt bad value as its in great condition and its complete

You will find one in time, but this is the first useable one I have seen on ebay in 5 years of watching (although I havnt been watching as close as I used to in the last year)

Hi 1960Fury,
No worries,I didn't assume you were calling me a liar.sorry the number didn't work for you.ebay has changed the way their search works drastically, now in order to see it you have to type that number into the search bar and then click completed listings and it will show up. I didn't realize that until this morning when I read your message.I apologize for the confusion. I should have posted a link instead yesterday,it was late and I wasn't thinking.
Heres the link to the round aero wheel that sold for $400,it actually looks near mint, but has some minor flaws and no horn ring. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Plymouth-Aero-Fury-Optional-Steering-W...

I have the numbers for the other wheels but because they are over 3 months when I try and search them nothing comes up anymore, just a screen that says that the item is over 90 days old or the number is invalid.

By the way,is that a 1961 Desoto in your profile picture? I've always loved those and the 1960's. the 61's are rarer than hens teeth. I've only ever seen one in person.

yes, those green sunvisors were still available in 1960 but rarely optioned and very hard to find. i added a bumper guard, aero wheel and hifi radio to my coupe as these are a must for a 60 fury, but until now couldn't find a pair of green sun visors.

Thanks for sharing the photos of your former Desoto. I love the 1957-1958's,but think the 60's and 61's have terrific lines.I really like the sleek, long fins. I didn't realize the round sparkle wheels weren't called "aero wheels" as well. The two other wheels I did see sell for in the $400-$600 range were the square aero wheels and were complete, but needed to be recast. I was able to find the link on Forward Look to the auction,it belonged to a member here, you can still click the link and see the price it sold for,but unfortunately the pictures are no longer there. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=62390&...

The other Aero wheel was about 5 months back and it amazingly intact and driver quality,it had all of the clear section except for one tiny piece where it met the black plastic center grip, and it was complete with its horn bar. It sold for only a little over $400 and the person who bought it relisted it and resold it for $700. I didn't see them until it was too late.

Thank you very much for sharing your info. I agree with you completely about the Hi-Fi Radio,Aero wheel and bumper bar and am trying to find all those things and the green sunvisors. Do you know anyone selling a set or what I should expect to pay for them?

I have a huge box full of old car magazines from the late 50's and early 60's and in one of them they were discussing the new 1960 models and they claimed for the 1960 Plymouth the drew inspiration from the 1957 models, you can somewhat see it in how the fins once again slant backwards with the wind, and how the hood has "Plymouth" in block letters across it,and with the optional upper bumper bar the bumper somewhat mimics the center piece of the 1957-1958 models. I will have to dig through my box and see if I can figure out how to post the article here.

The green visors must look great installed, and they probably hold up better than the standard ones. Are the bumper bars hard to find?

By the way, what is that cool lookling building with the futuristic roof shading the Desoto?

I saw that $2,500 wheel, but do you think being a vintage original and not recast that it would hold up bring used,or would it crumble and then need to be recast? that was my concern. if it would fall apart on a driver and then need to be recast I might be better off finding a core and just having it redone

One thing to remember about NOS parts, they are just as likely to fail as the part you are replacing, so, yes the wheel will eventually suffer the same fate as all the others did.

As for the re cast ones, I don't know for sure. There are new polymers around today, but pretty much any plastic or resin will die in the sun sooner or later, so, like an original wheel, if
its looked after, it will last a lot longer than the cars that became unloved and lived out in the open

Its what makes them rare, most you will find are falling apart, the horn bars are pitted (and can not be re chromed due to the fine lines in them)

Pretty sure the 60 Plymouth aero wheel is one of the most expensive vintage wheels you can get

i really like the phrase "suddenly its 1957" they said when the 1960 plymouth came out. the bumper guards are very hard to find too. i found a NOS one for $60 but that was 1989....

the cool looking building is a defunct ca 1957 caltex gas station in hannover, germany. more pictures of it here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11156&...

By the way, what is that cool lookling building with the futuristic roof shading the Desoto?

i really like the phrase "suddenly its 1957" they said when the 1960 plymouth came out. the bumper guards are very hard to find too. i found a NOS one for $60 but that was 1989....

the cool looking building is a defunct ca 1957 caltex gas station in hannover, germany. more pictures of it here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11156&...

Forgive my late reply. I've been very busy and haven't had much time to be online. I love that Caltex gas station. The 50's and 60's were such an incredible era, never again will we ever see such beauty and imagination put into everyday buildings and items. Even out here in the US such buildings are few and far between. As incredible as it may seem, they still get destroyed or remodeled to fit in with present styles.
You really know your 60 Plymouths,I saw that same "suddenly it's 1957" article. I think the 57-58 and 60 plymouths are the most beautiful Plymouths ever made. I've always loved the 1958,not because of anything to do with Christine, but because Exner took a true work of art,the 1957 Plymouth and refined it for 58 turning it into a true forward look masterpiece. Looking back 60 years later,it's truly amazing to think cars like these were once commonplace and that product design was once as important,if not more so than engineering
