Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | I want to clean-up and paint the surface rust on the inside edge of the trunk of my 56 Dodge Custom Royal before I install the new rubber gasket that I bought off eBay in the groove in the body (which I have cleaned up and spot filled ready for paint). I have tried a few "grey" paints on the trunk lid (bottom side) but they don't really work (match). If I had a code, I could get some made up but I can't find/don't know the code. Or what is available off the shelf that works (??) Any leads/suggestions will be appreciated. Edited by 56D500boy 2016-10-20 6:09 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Ended up deciding that TremClad (Canadian Rustoleum) (Gloss Dark Grey) was close enough. I'm about half done and my neighbour sees it and suggests that I should use a flat paint, not gloss. Opinions? The inside of the trunk lid is gloss but the trunk floor, etc. I'm not sure. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | miquelonbrad - 2017-10-09 12:32 PM Semi-gloss. Good(ish) answer. RIght in the middle. Problem: Tremclad Rust doesn't come in either Flat or Semi-gloss grey. At least that is what I found looking yesterday. Edited by 56D500boy 2017-10-09 12:52 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 406 Location: Hilltown, PA | Didn't there used to be "flattening" agents you could add to gloss paint to achieve a semi-gloss or even flat finish? I could be mis-remembering, or maybe newer paint chemistry doesn't allow that kind of additive anymore. There's this . . . https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/how-to-flatten-gloss-rus... And . . https://www.google.com/search?q=paint+flattening+agent&source=lnms&t... Gregg Edited by LostDeere59 2017-10-09 2:32 PM
