I bought new wheel cylinders for a friend's 57 Imperial convertible off e-bay. They do not have the peg that holds in the front shoes (sits in the cup), I assume I should just take the ones from my old cylinders and install them? Also these were made in China, anyone have a source for USA made brake hoses and cylinders?

Thanks,
Garrett

Raybestos makes new wheel cylinders for 57 imperial. Summit racing carries them and so does ebay. Hoses may be a little tricky to find a USA brand. The wheel cylinders should be complete and about $35 per cylinder 6 total. You will need to reuse the peg as far as I know.

Its also easy to hone the cylinders with a brake cylinder hone. Usually its the cylinder that gets some corrosion on the walls and causes failure. The internals may be fine. The original rubber seal and aluminum piston are good quality. I honed the cylinders on my imperial brakes and had no leaks when I put it all together using the same internals. I cleaned them up a good bit of course. I would rather take my chance with the original stuff versus Chinese junk.

The NAPA cylinders come with new pins, same size and fitment. You can clean up your old ones and keep them as spares.

I just bought a full set of AC Delco wheel cylinders from Rock Auto for the 58 Belvedere. "Made in USA" is cast into the parts; the box says made in Mexico. Hard to know where anything is made these days. Could they be cast in the US and machined in Mexico? Possibly. Could the molds have been shipped to Mexico and not changed from when they were US made? Very possible, and if so a misrepresentation in my opinion.

Thanks for the help. I will have to try the AC Delco ones as I would prefer that to made in China.
