Hi All; I have a 55 dodge coronet 2dr sedan, and I have a 88 Chrysler 5th ave with a 318 and 904 trans. I am going to to put that in the 55. The motor in the 55 was a 270 I think. (motor is junk). The 270 is mounted to the front cross member by a horse shoe type mount. My question is where can I find 71-75 truck steel engine mounts for the 318? Yes I could cut the mounts from the K member ,but I think the truck mounts are better. I think this would be the easiest way to mount the 318 to the frame. Thanks for any help or info. mike h flathead4848

By referring to "truck mounts" are you meaning the large cast iron front mount ?

Admit that you need to do some fab work and quit expecting a bolt-together project.

As for the 270 that you call junk, offer it up before you call the scrap dealers..........some folks actually use them.

wayfarer; what I was referring to was the bolt on steel mounts that mid 50s to early 90s dodge 1/2 and 3/4t pickups used on the front 3 and 4 bolt bosses cast on the block. my 88 uses spool type mounts am trying to do this the easy way, since I don't have a garage or torch nor a mig welder, but I can do a lot with a little. I never expected this to be easy. that's half the fun. after rebuilding(4 years), a 74 ihc motor home on a shoe string buget this will be a vacaction.

I put spool mounts on my '56 Plymouth due to the inexpensive simplicity when compared to other styles. The OEM mounts were over $400 and that was to rebuild my cores. The spool brackets were about $20-$30 and the mounts from rock auto were less than $20, and will be available at any auto parts store long after I'm gone.

hey Gary; that is true. I probably will go with the spools. most of the swaps involve the 340, 360, 383, or 440, all of which you can buy what ever you need. but hey! it takes me back to the ooold days. howbout a 352 into a 55 ford ranch wagon that had a 6 in it when new, then a 265 chevy that was in it when my father in law got it, then a 272 finally a 292. the last motor I swapped was from my 93 chevy 3/4t to my 89 gmc suburban using a tree in my front yard. was a truck-trailer mechanic for 25years among other things. I will build my 55 like it would have looked in late 50s to late 60s. just up to muscle cars.
