Hello all,

If my steering gearbox still has play and my adjuster screw is bottomed out, its rebuild time I assume. Lares Corporation seems to be the popular place to send your box out for a rebuild, but where else have you all had good luck with? I don't want to exchange mine for a good one, I want to get my OEM unit rebuilt and returned if possible.

Thanks!

Lares is recommended for Power Steering, but if you have a manual box, you can just use someone local. There is nothing really complex about it.

I'll just mention Lares rebuilt the manual steering box for the '57 Ford Ranchero I drive almost daily. It is probably as good as a new car was in '57, maybe better with the radial tires.

It may be simply the rubber insulator (cost about $10) between the steering-wheel shaft and the steering-box input !!!

I had Steer and Gear in Ohio rebuild by power box. They offer a range of firmer than normal feel rebuilds if you want it. I got a one step up firmer box and it's great.

Steer and Gear rebuilt the box in my '57 and it leaked when I got it back. Funny, it didn't leak before I sent it to them, I guess they, uh, fixed it.
