300 C and D trans 3's are the same as well as 56 t/flites
part #1854123 for the assly, w/case #1736236
Your number does not appear in my 55-58 master parts book

The transmission part number is located on the lower right side (passenger side) right above the pan on a machined off area. The transmission case number is located halfway up the main transmission case on the left side (driver’s side). source: Chrysler 300 Club Intl Inc.

In canadian parts book i read that it states 1823734 as correct for 300c
Really doesnt matter, but i was offered a transmission with these numbers and if it indeed is a 300c transmission it would be good to have for my 300c Project.

That's really weird!
Never having seen a Canadian parts book for that era, I wonder why?
Does it list 55-58 like the big US version?
Sure would like to see a picture of that page!

HI
I read it in a thread written by user id Phil_the_frenchie
Maybe he can chime in?seems he has the canadian book.

I saved the thread,so here is part of was was talked about.
Hopefully we get some info from Phil.:)

"Those first 2 part number that you mention 1823-656 and 1823-658 are not for Torque-Flite at all, but are for manual transmissions.

Yes !! I forgot the "manual" word ...
1823-740 is not in my 55 - 58 DPCD Parts book.
I know ... But it is in the '57 passenger car parts lis from Chrysler corporation of Canada !!
I'll never know why these 2 parts manual are different for some Tqf numbers !

I've a friend who has a 300 C export convertible (one of the five ..). We overhauled the trans. some years ago so i found the # as usual.
I was at this time in contact with George Riehl (i wanted order a Tqf kit ..) so i told him the # of this "C" Torqueflite : 1823 734. He told me that these number was incorrect and wasn't the original number (must be 1854 123) but why my friend's trans has the number which is showed in the canadian parts book ? In the canadian book , ther's no 1854 123, only 1823 734 !! Early production (i don't think so because my friend's car is from may 57) ? Export transmission ?

I'va also other "sports cars" Tqf trans. which aren't i suppose in the US 55-58 parts list: 1823 736 ('57 Adv) and 1823 738 ('57 D500)
All these transmissions have a different "part N° service" "

Odd for sure!
Whatever, when you get into it you should be able to tell if it is built to 300 spec's
Should have an extra clutch plate in it along w/a few other differences that I can't put my finger on right now.
It's been a while since I have been into one myself, the last being the trans for my Parade Green C.
Got the parts from FASTCO, IIRC
George, (RIP), told me jus what to order in the way of parts to be sure and get the 300 stuff and also did several units for me years ago as well. Sure miss that guy!

Did we ever get this I.D. issue settled to anyone's satisfaction?
I have been cleaning house and pulled my spare C engine & trans from storage and just fot the heck of it, recorded the numbers.
The block is 3NE572283 which is indeed a 300 C engine
The trans is surprisingly the same as stated above from a Canadian parts book 1823734 but has an "E" after the part number.
What's up with that??

Again, I sure would like to see the page from the Canada parts book w/that info.
Anyone??
Thanks!

Hi
If I may add my two cents worth here ...I have two '58 Canadian parts books (WM4396 issued December 1957 and WM4429 issued March 1959 with Transmission section supplement issued April 30 1959) and they both indeed show the 1823734 part number as being the "production" part number for the 300C. The WM4396 book shows the service replacement trans as 1823593 plus the use of one each of part number 1823726 and 1823709 which happen to be the outer governor weight and spring for the Fury, D500, Adventurer and 300C.
The WM 4429 book shows the service replacement trans as part number 1738227 plus the use of one each of part number 1823726 and 1823709. The clutches are identified as having 5 discs.

Hi
As per special request here are the trans section pages in question...I've included the page from a '57 book showing a similar trail of part numbers for the 300 transmissions.
