i ordered and received the rear disc and power brake setup . don't know when i'll get to the install , got a ton of house things to
do but maybe fall or early winter . the power brake unit i'm not 100% sure of out of the box fit because of the actuator length but
i think if it needs one made , it won't be a big deal --------------------------------------later

Don't suppose these kits would work in my '58 Desoto, would they? Tapered axles not worth fooling with?

Best of luck with your upgrade project. When ya find the time

take those tapered axles and cut em up for junk . thats how much i hate em . the last ones i took out , i actually pulled a stud THROUGH the hub . get yourself a good
8 3/4 even if ya gotta move the perches , which aint no big deal . you'll be glad you did -------------------------------------------------later

hahahaha And here I thought I was the only one at this whole site.
Congrats on being the first guy to agree these axles (and those *%^+&#@* drum brakes) aint worth screwing with.

I owe ya a beer.

by all means keep it, or be one in the long, long list of people wondering why they can't make a fl car run in straight line. if you change to disks anyway, there is no need to pull the hubs anymore, unless you have to service the gears (or bearings). with other words, probably never again.

I don't 100% understand your first sentence, Sir.
If I DO understand you, if a car won't track straight after an axle conversion, the axle isn't square to the frame. That is kinda important to check before snugging down the u bolt nuts. Or possibly, a spring is sagging horribly, or the frame is bent or twisted.

you just gotta weld the perches very precisely in place, 1/16" (or less) can make a difference, not just the center hole to center hole distance also the bore must be precisely on the shaft centerline, somewhat difficult to measure, also the angle of the perches is important. to me it wouldn't be worth it, i also like cars that still have the oe drivetrain.
as i said, if you convert to disks anyway there is really no need to change axles and yes, i dislike the tapered shafts too. these can be like welded to the hubs.
