Does anyone here know how to interpret the code on my engine? It's:

RC1-
1811C

All I've been able to find out so far is that the 'R' means 1961 and that the 'C1' it is either a Canadian Windsor or US Newport. The rest of the code doesn't seem to match up with the normal six-character (xxx-xxx) block stamping.

The "C" at the end means it is a Canadian engine. American engines would have the "R" followed by the engine size and then the date of assembly. Chrysler Canada did not adopt the US-style engine number system until 1966.

So, "RC1-1811C"
R - 1961
C - Chrysler
1 - Windsor - 361 V8
1811 - 811th engine built
C - Canadian production

The engine in my Canadian 1961 Windsor has R36 stamped on the boss.  Does it mean this is not the original engine?

Thanks

Ray

Yes, "R36" would be an American engine. Are there any numbers after the "R36"?

Either too many or not enough pain meds today. I confused identifiers from two engines. It is Canadian.

  RC1-

  18322C

Thanks
