I am having problems with vacumn selector buttons for my heater control. The buttons have been somewhat sticky, but now they will only go in and not come back out automatically when they are suppose to. They seem to activate the correct baffles, etc.

If cleaning and or lube can help, please provide suggestions.

Thanks

Not likely Ray, inside there's 3 wafer cams with triangular notches that moves with the button that's pushed in.
This is what it might look like.......

If your lucky, you might be able to demount the vacuum unit and get some silicone spray in the openings for the buttons, but it's much work prehaps for nothing.

Thanks, that really helped. I have a much better idea as to how it should function

I am guessing the wafer cams are really worn/broken or the pivot areas are damaged.

Low tech at it worst.

I didn't see any on ebay. Time to make a trip to the salavage yard.

Anyone have an workingl unit that they want to sell?

This might help you. Someone who rebuilds them. A friend had one done for this '64 New Yorker and it was excellent work.

Thanks for the information regarding rebuilding. Price and turnaround seem to be fantastic.

I will post after photos, but I am not sre what they will show. I think most of the rebuilding will be interior moving parts.

I'm curious if you got this problem resolved. I'm having an issue with my 59 Windsor. The blower wont blow. I haven't done any troubleshooting yet; that could be my winter project.

If it's any help to anyone, I found this video. It gives a little insight on how these things work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpl2pV5Eam8

Not yet. Put off extracting it and car got boxed in so I couldn't get to it. Now it is -20 f. Maybe in a couple of weeks/months?
