Location: Westminster, Colorado | Ok so I started up my 58 yesterday , first time since I put her away
For the winter. I went to back up to get the rear out of the shop.
The right rear wheel is locked up. The brakes do need a bit of
Work, I Installed a scarebird front disc kit, and new master ETC.
And I need to pump up the brakes after it's been sitting for awhile.
If I let it sit for about a minute without hitting the brake pedal
The wheel is free, as soon as i touch the brakes it locks up ?
I haven't dug into it yet, but what are your thoughts ?
I have bought but not installed a pressure res valve for the
Rear in hopes that it would cure the pedal needing pumped up.
The rears are still drums.

Location: Branson, MO | If the brake shoes absorbed any moisture from the car sitting around where there is dampness, there is a tendency for the brakes to grab and lock up. Also, if there is a fluid leak from the wheel cylinder, etc., this will cause the same issue as the moisture because the shoes absorb the brake fluid as well. It's most noticeable at low speeds. If you are able to get the car up to a good speed and try the brakes, you may get the heat build up while applying the brakes to evaporate some of the moisture and the brakes will feel normal. At speed, it is less likely the brakes will grab and lock up because of the inertia of the spinning wheel. But be prepared just in case. To cure the problem, you probably will have to replace the shoes because the moisture or brake fluid just doesn't seem to leave permanently. The more often you drive, the less likely you will experience the problem - but let the car sit for awhile, and you start all over again.

| I'm no expert on disc brake conversion kits but Id be sure you have an appropriate proportioning valve on the car which should have come with the kit. I would want to make sure it is properly adjusted. I've seen problems with master cylinder sizing and push rods do weird things to the ability to release the brakes after the pedal has been pushed. I would check also for a residual pressure check valve used on some drum brake systems that may not be compatible with the master cylinder/proportioning valve set=up you have. |

Location: Westminster, Colorado | OK I dug into to it yesterday, and there was a gummy type crud on the shoes and the drum.
a little sanding cloth and brake cleaner, and it appears to be good !! |

Location: upstate new york | I have this same problem Robert,,,I'm being told it might be rear axle seal leaking...i have not pulled the drum off again yet, but after it sits in the garage awhile the rear locks up...once i get it out and drive it down the road, the problem disappears...did you ever get your issue resolved?
