I had a delightful time visiting with Gary and his guys, Bob and barefoot Bill a week or so ago. I needed a right rear quarter panel for my 1960 Matador wagon that had minor rear quarter rust out in the right rear quarter. I met with Bob and barefoot Bill and we went over to his small storage lot and found one off a 62 Chrysler wagon that was rust free.
Gary and his father Ernie, who has passed on, had a deal with the local towing companies to bring any old MOPAR to their shop on F street and they would pay much more than the scrap yard would pay. Regularly, anything MOPAR would get dropped off at their shop, and over time they have accumulated and parted out hundreds of MOPARs. Oh what fun we had looking for a drivers side door panel for my 57 Royal 2 door, without success. But we looked in every nook and cranny, and I have attached a few photos of the massive collection of cars and parts he has saved. Anyone out there have a driver's door panel from a 57 Dodge Royal or Custom Royal 2 door? I need the stainless.
At one point, he was considering scrapping a huge lot of cars. He thought long and hard about scrapping everything, because the scrap prices were high at the time and he could turn the parts into a very significant amount of money, but fortunately for all of us, he changed his mind. He has saved everything off these cars, and so there is a good chance that he has what you are looking for.
Gary runs a huge pizza and sandwich shop a few blocks away from his shop, and is there from early morning until late night, so he is a bit hard to contact, but if you call him, he will get back to you as soon as he can. His number one guy Bob, has had major health issues and was off to the hospital the next day for more tests.
You may recall the pictures he posted a while back of a line of forward look MOPARs parked in an empty lumber yard. Not too long ago, he was surprised to find all of the cars had disappeared! To his surprise they were all parked just a few blocks away at a storage facility. It seems that some "enterprising" person thought that they were abandoned and sold them all on Craig's list. Gary got them back, but had to cut them up and stack parts in an already full storage area because space is in short supply.
I have attached a picture of Gary and I eating at his restaurant, Pictures of some of the cars he has, as well as a tiny bit of the parts he has stacked from floor to ceiling in his 2 story warehouse.
Thanks Gary for the fabulous time and tour!
