I need advice on how to remove the pedal operated hot air flap assembly from under the dash. The one on the inside of the bulkhead.

Mine is in good condition, but has some mild surface rust and I want to pull it out, median blast and repaint. The screws came out easily after dropping the plastic heater ducts and wiper motor/arms. The sealant was all dried up, so released quite easily. All came loose very quickly. However, I cannot get the flap assembly out from the bulkhead. The steel duct part of the assmebly is flared outward towards the heater matrix and it is too wide for the hole in the bulkhead. I can't see how to detach the flared duct from the flap mounting plate, so assume it is all part of one unit.

How the heck does it come out?
