Prepare yourself with money and a VERY high level of patience. When the lenses arrive they will be stunningly beautiful though

I waited three years for a pair of tail light lenses and had to get another person involved to add "pressure" to make even that happen. Sure the lenses are beautiful but that TOTAL INCONSISTENCY and the lies GL uses during the delays were way too much for me. Never again.

Talked to a friend yesterday who sent an NOS trunk emblem to George for the purpose of making a perfect mold to cast some new reproduction trunk emblems for a particular letter car. He received his NOS emblem and a couple of the newly cast reproductions just last week. This may be a record because he sent the NOS emblem to George in 2007 so it's only been nine years!!!!!!!!!!

I'm over 2 years and $900 out waiting for lenses I sent him....to be completely honest, his lack of output (as well as his absolute non-response to all of my emails) has put a serious nail in the coffin of my Desoto project. It's hard to get enthused about restoring a 60 year old car when every single part is unobtainable.

Its not complicated. Don't buy if you don't want to wait. Don't buy if you don't want your money tied up. I have beautiful lenses front and back at a price a lot cheaper than the Swedes were charging when I did it. The trunk medallion was unattainable by any other source I could find at the time.

I love the stuff I bought off Laurie and I was well informed by this site before I bought.

Thank you George. You make my car look so much better. You are an artist.

Anyone can complain that wants to. I say inform people and they will make decision that is right for them.

I specifically placed my order over 2 years before I needed the lenses. Hello, you're in a rush? Why the heck would you use him? This site should have told you loud and clear.

Keep it up George.

I just bought a set of DeSoto tail light lenses from George and it only took 2 months. They were perfect and make my ratty car look a lot better. What lenses did you order from him?

I have just dealt with George for a pair 59 2dr HT interior lenses,

But i emailed him first to see if he had some already made and ready to ship, he replied within 2 hrs and said Yes, So i paid him on 11th Feb 2016 and they were delivered today 27th feb 2016, so only 16 days to pack and ship and arrive at my home in UK..

So maybe people wanting lenses quickly need to ask first if he has them in stock OR if they have to be made.. As that seems to be the reason for such long waits, as i guess he doesnt make a new batch of lenses until he gets a order for a vast amount..

Oh and the Quality is awesome as others have already mentioned..

61 Chrysler, your post is the dumbest I've read in a long time. I don't think anyone is asking their parts be shipped next day...but when the seller says they are on hand then vanishes without a word for 2 years - that's a bit much.

Powrflite, Below is the order I placed. Other than the acknowledgement, I have heard nothing since.

Greg, yes it has come in ok, George.

Hello Greg, yes I still make the licence lens and I will throw one in for free. So your Total with shipping would be $816.00 us and the easy way to make payment is with www.paypal.com using my email address georgelaurie@bigpond.com
Please be sure to leave your postal address and a note telling me the parts you are ordering, I copy from there to my order book. Thank you for the order, George.

George,

Thank you for the photos. I do not see the license plate lens mentioned – do you still make them? I will need one if you make them.

In any case, I would like:

57 Desoto tail lenses $300/6
57 Desoto front park lenses $150/pair
57 Desoto Hood emblem $190
2 DR dome lenses $35/each x 4 = $140

Hey GregCon. Thanks for the insult. I guess that happens when someone gets as frustrated as you. I have to ask, didn't you do ANY research before you dropped almost a grand on a vendor from overseas? According to you I type the dumbest things.... maybe next time someone looking to buy will read a few posts like this one and make an informed decision.

Good luck getting your parts.

Come on guys, don't get into any arguing..

Some people have a had good experiences and some have had bad.. I for one would rather go without or find a used part or try and find another channel. I don't want to get into a long winded story but if any business can't be bothered to email back then it kind of reflects their ethics in business. I think if he definitely has something sitting on the shelf that he can make good money from straight away, he will reply with a fast reply. If it's not on shelf then no point in replying... Not a good way to do business but unfortunately that is actually how some people do things..
I got sick of it and found someone else to make me up a V and the charge was a nice surprise for a one off. Even my delivery price was 1/4 of the cost and from the same area... If I didn't do that, I would of definitely bought one of "Mikes2nd" V's which look really nice..

But yeah it's not worth arguing about.

I am seriously out of pocket with this guy, he has $500 of mine as well as the original steering wheel from my Fury and a second wheel.
I paid him my side of the business transaction in June of 2010.
Since then it has been an unbelievable list of excuses as to why he could not deliver what I have paid him for, and he has ignored 10 emails that I have sent him since 2013.
This is beyond just being a useless lazy person-this is blatant theft.
Yes I am pissed off and have kept it under my hat until now in the hope that something good might come of it if I stay patient. Wrong. I have had enough.
The bad experiences of George taking honest people's money and then not delivering what is promised litter the internet when you google his name.
More than enough for any logical thinking judge in a court of law to rule in the favor of the complainant. And that's where I am heading.
Glenn.

A note to advise that George has finally returned my parts and investment that I paid him in 2010.
6 years of progress down the toilet and still I have a cracked steering wheel, but at least I'm back to square one.

I got my order from George today. These are replacement and spare lenses and emblems for my 60 Imperial. I will post pics soon. I haven't looked at all of them yet but the tail lens and eyebrow emblem look awesome. It is hard for me to believe an Aussie in the QLD jungle is the only person on the planet making some of this stuff.

Nice work George Laurie.

I can vouch for the above advice, order with some lead time! I am going to place another order soon.

I ordered 4 Hubcap inserts and 2 Trunk/Hood emblems for my 55 Chrysler New Yorker from George on 4/4/2017 at the recommendation of JC Auto Restoration. I sent $830 AUS/$1059.63 US through PayPal, and I was told that "You are in the order book". I had been forwarded by JC Auto that it would take quite a while to get the product . Time sort of gets away sometimes, and on 5 Jan 2019 I emailed George to find out whats up. When he did not respond, I checked with JC Auto and was told that they recently heard that George had suffered a serious illness, possible a Stroke, and they didn't even know if he survived, but if he did there was no-one to take over the business. I am in the process of investigating my options, which might include the Federal Trade Commission, who partners with some international trade organizations on complaints of nondelivery of goods.

Good luck. I think that the FTC is about your only option. Anyone else here that has an outstanding balance with George should partner with you to bring the true value up to a level that will raise enough eyebrows to get something done about it with the local authorities in Australia. But even if something is done, it doesn't always mean that you will get your money back.

Update- I contacted the Office of Fair Trading Queensland, www.qld.gov.au, and filed a complaint. Don't know if that was the correct place to complain, but I asked their advice. Also, on a whim decided to send a letter to his address and see if I get a response. If he is dead, maybe it will get to his survivors? Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I think you guys are dreaming if you think that money previously sent to George for goods not yet received (or even made) is going to be returned by George or his estate if/when he passes. Sorry.

It's not like people didn't warn us about George.

He still owes me goods but I was lucky enough to receive the majority of my order after 2 years. I have no expectations of receiving anything more (goods or money). It's over.

Can you let us all know here if you get a reply from the Office of Fair Trading, so that others who are out of pocket can jump on the claim and perhaps collectively get some reparation from one of the biggest thieves in the business. I think it's human nature for folks to continue to believe that he might deliver, but where there's smoke there's fire, and there seems to be a lot of smoke around George Laurie....

It's important (or at least noteworthy) that when I mailed him my money, there were scarce 'warnings' afloat, and generally everyone loved him. He instantly replied to me emails, and said all the right things. So aside from the simple fact that he had a shingle hung up, he was like a million other vendors - no reason to suspect he would run off with my money.

I like to think that whatever his health issue is (ovarian cancer?), it's a direct result of bad karma. I'd rather have my money back, but I'll settle for that.

Someone start a list of what $$$ people have sent this thief, and have received nothing. Might be a fun game. At present all we have is a bunch of separate accounts, let's put it all on one page and total it up, added to on this discussion as a running total...

It's a shame. I've been involved with e and b body Mopars and never encountered someone like him. I found good used lenses and once I heard of everyone else's experience, I wrote off 400.00. I do hope he recovers and can redeem himself..

Regarding my Aug 26, 2019 filing a complaint with Australia, I think I got to the right place. I got the following message from them on 4 September.

Reference number: C-2019-10657
Please quote this reference number in all communication with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT)

Dear Mr Holland,

I’m writing to you about your complaint regarding George Laurie that you lodged with OFT.

The OFT is Queensland’s marketplace regulator and works to ensure both consumers and traders can participate in a fair and safe marketplace.

Your complaint has been assessed as being suitable for conciliation and allocated to the Sunshine Coast Regional Office.

Conciliation is a process where the OFT makes representations to the trader on behalf of a consumer in an attempt to resolve the issues. Any further evidence arising during the conciliation process may be taken into consideration when determining if a complaint requires further escalation.

The conciliation process may require an OFT officer to provide some information about you to the trader. Please contact us by return email or telephone if you do not provide consent for information you have provided to be revealed to the trader.

Please note, if you do not provide consent for this to occur then it may not be possible for OFT to take any action on your behalf.

The OFT cannot force or direct a trader to provide the outcome you have requested; only a court or tribunal can make legal rulings of this nature. If the OFT is unable to assist you to reach a suitable outcome at the end of the conciliation process, alternative options such as taking the complaint to a tribunal or seeking your own legal advice will be suggested.

If you have any additional information or documentation you feel may support your complaint, please reply to this email for consideration.

We try to resolve all complaints within 30 days. Every complaint is unique though, so please treat this as a guide only. More information about our process for handling complaints can be found at https://www.qld.gov.au/law/your-rights/consumer-rights-complaints-an...

By way of general information, if you have used a credit card for this transaction you may wish to contact your credit card provider and determine if a dispute may be lodged with them. If your complaint relates to an eBay or PayPal purchase, consider lodging a complaint via their respective channels. There are time limits attached to the procedure so it is essential you inform them as soon as possible.

If this matter is resolved and/or you wish to withdraw the complaint please advise our office accordingly by return email or telephone.

If you would like to discuss your complaint before we contact the trader, please do not hesitate to contact this office on (07) 5376 7308 during office hours.

Yours sincerely,

If he has a brain injury as said above, I doubt that anything will happen now.

If you have legal proof that he has something of yours or owes you something, you need to find out who is managing his affairs and
stake your claim with them.

I may be reading "brain injury" wrong, but I am thinking he is at best now a moron, at worse a vegetable. Either way, you wont get sense from him

I doubt he has any money stashed away. The normal course is A) Receive Money B) Spend Money C) Forget all about sending parts.

Is there a way to start a negative GoFundMe page for George?

It is true , he genuinely has a brain injury . I live 2000kms away from him . I meant to take a trip there one day and see what parts he had etc.. but it never happened .

I suppose it could be argued that all criminals have brain injuries....

This was posted on the Facebook Forward Look Page (not by me) on 20th December 2018, my understanding is that George has not recovered and still has very limited use of legs.

" Just a heads up for the community my great mate George Laurie from Queensland has had a bad stroke - was found on his kitchen floor after 2 days laying there, as he lives by himself out of town.
This was 4 weeks ago, he has been recovering well but has no use of his legs? and his memory is coming back. I know some people have had bad experiences with him. But a heap have had good dealings with him. He is honest, just snowed under with orders for things that are obtainable any where. My prayers are with him for a good recovery there is a Facebook page friends of George Laurie if any one wants to send some good wishes....take care old mate bex. "

My dealings with George. I sent my list of parts I wanted. He told me what he had. I paid for ONLY what he had. 4 or 5 weeks later everything I paid for arrived. I would not have been able to properly complete my car without his parts.

I have been watching the responses about George Laurie. I guess now the outcome of his situation in life is finally now stated. I know a lot of folks have had money owed and deserve to be reimbursed. But its not right to say some of the things that were said about him. Hers a guy that contributed to us as a Forward Look FAMILY. Not to shame anyone, I would be hot about it also. Seek your funds but not his soul. Long live our Forward Look Dreams.

i think that's kind of easy to say when you aren't owed a lot of money for years... I know making parts for FWL cars is always kind of a losing proposition... and I pretty much threw in the towel

But ive also learned don't say anything until you have the product in your hand for sale, tooling is crazy expensive still and obviously chroming, labor can be extensive to get perfect.

And I only buy when i know the part exists.

Honestly George should have taken orders and when they were complete taken the cash. should work like this: He takes the order, molds the part... tells the customer its ready or in stock and takes the funds...

If he gives up making parts will he refund? that will say a lot there.
