Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | So, since my '57 Windsor is in a million pieces, and since I am stupid, I've decided to add factory A/C to it. I was able to purchase an (almost) complete system, from a '57 New Yorker that was being parted out in Arizona. But...since the compressor was mounted on a 392, none of the brackets are correct for the 354 Poly. My questions are: Does anyone have pictures of a system in a 57-58 FL car, OTHER than in a car with a Hemi in it? I find lots of pictures on the net, and in books, of the 392 or 341 engines with A/C... I'd like to know what brackets I'm looking for, or if I can even build them myself, and have them look stock. How do the belts "run" on the 354? And how does the generator come in to play? I've seen pictures of a dual belt system, with a heavier generator. The parts book lists it as one with double ball bearings. And I've seen pictures with a single belt generator, and dual belts only running to the compressor. Any help is appreciated!

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | I thought the brackets were the same 354 and 392. I posted my 354 with A/C on the D501 thread and it does have a dual ball bearing generator. Greg

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Brad, Here is standard 58 CDN Dodge with 354. Dual belts -- crank - water pump - PS pump. Single belt crank-generator. The A/C 392 everything would bolt to this engine. Is the 57 Chrysler 354 different? Greg (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- image.jpg (121KB - 170 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | Hi Greg, Ok, I will look up that thread. No, all the 354's are built the same. But I get different part numbers from the manual...and when I set the compressor on the engine, the brackets don't line up. I assume it would be because of the different heads?

Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | Ok, I found the D501 thread...FANTASTIC picture!!! This is exactly the shot I was hoping for! THANKS! I also looked in the '58 parts book again (as the '57 one doesn't list some of the A/C components) and three of the brackets are the same, and only one is different. I will dig out the compressor again, and do a little closer comparison. I suspect that the compressor MAY be from a '59...

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Brad, Is the head already drilled and tapped for the compressor bracket? If so, BIG bonus! I have the same set up on my Regal. I will get some decent, I hope, pics of the right side of the engine and brackets. Have you "moved into" your fabulous new shop yet? Greg

Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Photos of the A/C brackets etc. on my Regal. Just in one of my garages, easy to get at! I know I had to saw, lengthen/or/shorten and maybe alter the angle a bit of the top rear (biggest) bracket. Just welded it back together and metal finished the weld. Had to do the same on at least two cars. Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | WOW! Awesome pics! I got the fan shroud with the system. Yes, it looks like a tight fit! How does one even get their hand in to install the fan bolts...?

How does one even get their hand in to install the fan bolts...? Yes, or fan belts!! It's possible --- but no fun! Lots more room in that area on a Chrysler than on a Dodge. Good luck with the project. Greg

Regular Posts: 90 Location: Oklahoma | I have a '58 Windsor with a 354 Poly and although it looks like the compressor is in the same location as the Dodge, the mount brackets are different. Let me know if you need more pics. (IMG_4345.JPG) (rsz_img_4352.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_4345.JPG (128KB - 184 downloads) rsz_img_4352.jpg (127KB - 169 downloads)
