Going to take the time since the engine is out to get all the accessories clean and working. This includes the factory air conditioning system. I ordered parts several months ago and just now looked on the packaging... The expansion valve and dryer both have an r134a sticker on them. I plan on using r12( already have it) and am curious if these parts will be comparable with the r12?

The drier will be OK as they are normally compatible with both, but the TX valve wont work properly (that means it will work, buy not properly)

What will work better is forgetting the r12 and using r134a and save your r12 for something else

If you have your engine out, then you have the compressor off, so drain the oil out of it and re fill it with ester oil and jobs basically done

If you havnt got an original compressor on it and are using a sanden, it probably was R 134a?

Thanks I think I may just do that. Isn't there a difference in the amount of r134a as opposed to r12 to add to the system?

About 10% less, but basically, you dont clear the sightglass when you gas it like you do with r12

A large old system like these would take somewhere between 700 to 1000 gms, but there are variables I dont know here because it comes down to the sizes of, and what components you are using
