1960 New Yorker four door sedan. $10,900

approx. 52,000 miles showing. I can't guarantee it, but I am 99% certain that it's a 52,000 mile car. Runs strong, drives tight.

Original 413-4bbl, 2.94 SURE GRIP rear, power windows, power bench seat, power drum brakes, black with white top, flight sweep deck lid, all verified on Chrysler Historical Society paperwork (yes, I sent in my $40 and have the breakdown and it comes with the car.)

Runs and drives great, brakes work, but are finicky; if you're on this website you understand. New wheel cylinders and shoes and hoses. I think it falls into the survivor category, it's not perfect, but it really is a nice 55 year old mostly unrestored car. Driver's rear 1/4 was repainted, probably hit lightly at some point in the last 55 years, but all the gaps are even, so it was a superficial bit of damage whatever happened.

I put a new dash pad in and had all the metal interior trim repainted in a correct silver. Brand new leaf springs in the rear, car has a perfect stance. Front sway bar bushings are great. Astro-dome glows when I get the headlight switch just right, or about 10% of the time.

Please note, picture 2110 shows off the only rust on the car. There is a small spot of surface rust on the flight-sweep deck lid, but it's surface rust only at the very bottom of the phony wheel cover. will post a pic of that lid. I had a guy who needed that deck lid for his 300 resto offer me $1200 for my deck lid, plus a standard lid painted to match my car. Obviously I said no thank you.

I will be posting more pictures so check back. Will help coordinate shipping. In Richmond, Virginia. Please call with questions,
I will tell you everything you'd like to know about the car over the phone. 443-340-7588.

More pics.

I've tried to capture the car completely, warts and all.

In the pictures of the driver's footwell, that isn't rust, that's the original brown insulation under the factory carpet. Yes, it's worn on the driver's side. The car is mostly unmolested.

Notice the inside hood release. Don't know if that is standard or not, but it works well. The AM radio works but is not connected.

Also, For those who don't haggle me, I will throw in a 1960 dealer book, cool magazine ad, AND the 1960 service manual AND the 1960 parts book.

Notice the old leather key fob... it's from the original dealer, Menzie's in Muncie Indiana. It has the old alpha-numeric phone number format too which I think is fun.

I captured the surface rust on the deck lid, it IS NOT THROUGH.

In the trunk, the spare still has the original jack, wooden wheel chock, jacking instructions. The trunk floor is rust free, I also wanted to show off the still intact drain tubes that drain the trunk lip.

Well I'd be happy to sell it to you! I'm trying to price it reasonably and realistically. I think it's a great way to buy one of the prettiest tail fin cars ever made at a price that works for many buyers.

I see that you have the BFG tires on there. They look great. Are these 900-14?

At last someone who puts in the effort to photograph a car properly it gives the potential buyer confidence to purchase straight off the pics.

Nice car well displayed, well priced, if I needed another fin car i'd be all over this.

Very nice car and reasonably priced. I'd love to have it if my money wasn't tied up in my 59 Plymouth resto.

Thanks all for the kind words. I am selling because I want to get back into a muscle car in the future, also for the short term I live within the city of Richmond and am storing it in the suburbs and just don't use it as I would like. I'm glad someone appreciates the pics, I figure if I want to expect decent money for the car, which I believe $10,900 is, I need to put the work in to attract a buyer.

I have had a lot of interest from Europe and some in the States, no sale yet. I'm being patient, I know it's a terrible time of year to sell a car, but I don't need to sell tomorrow, so I'll let the ad work for me.

Also, to the gentleman who phoned from Sweden, I saw your missed calls the other day but was at work, please do try to call back, I would like to resume our conversation.

To the folks in North Hollywood, I don't want or desire your help in selling the car, I don't plan on paying you one single penny, please don't ever call me again.

To those interested: I am lowering the price to $10,500. I am only selling because I want to go back to a 1971 Charger or Road Runner, so this doesn't mean I am taking lowball offers, but I do want to get it going.

So I'm back for a moment. Haven't been for a long time as you may have notised. Did you guys miss me ?

Anyway, what happened to this car ? Is it sold, or not ? Unfortunately the value of the USD have raised and the NOK (Norwegian Krone) have weakened drastically. Like less than 2 years ago the USD was worth NOK 5,30. Today I have to pay NOK 8,30 for one USD. Meaning: Less than 2 years ago I would pay NOK 53.000,oo for a USD 10.000,oo car. Today I have to pay NOK 83.000,oo fo the same car.

Now, if the value of the USD would have been the same today as it was less than 2 years ago, this car would have been sold to me before you even got your first reply.

Sad

Happy New Year ya'all.

PRICE DROP: $10,000.

Well if only I could control currency markets!

The car has not yet been sold. I have had serious interest, and some offers, but nothing has come through yet.

So, I'm now at $10,000 on the car, but I'll put it in storage on a friend's farm before I go much lower on it. As I've said, I don't need to sell, just want to get back to a muscle car.

PRICE DROP. $10,000

PARTS that come with:
I Almost forgot: coming in the trunk to whomever buys: alternator and brackets from 1961 Newport (so you can ditch the generator if you want, assuming the brackets from the 361 B engine will fit the RB 413, which I think they should)
-Spare astrodome instrument cluster from same Newport
-1 brake drum, new repro
-dome light plastic (needs a tab hot-rodded on so it will stay in the dome light, the dome light works I just removed the bulb)
-a couple other small miscellaneous items.

Well Andy, I tell you what: One of the reasons I'm not on here very often any more is because of all the people that talk about how cheap all the cars on here are, how much they want to buy a car because it's so cheap and it actually should be worth a lot more but don't have the mony, or allready have to many projects, how much they want to save an old car, but still would like to see it as a parts-car, how much they encourage other people to save a certain car, but still, again would like to see it as a parts-car, especially if they need some parts from such a car themself.

Got tired of all this nice talk about saving all these cars, but still 90 % of them dont seem to give a sh't. I can't stand cheap talkers and brabbers. During all the years I've been on this wonderful website I have seen so many easy restoreable cars that's not been sold to any of these "serious" people, but have become just parts-cars. I think to myself: How serious are actually these people ? That's why I am rearly on here any more.

A for me, if I say I want to by a car, I do it. If I don't have the mony, I say so. I don't make a whole lot of stupid excuses or say the car is worth a lot more than the asking-price when I don't even have the mony for the asking-price.

I hope you'll put it in a good storage-place if you do not find a serious buyer. And I hope you are serious enough not to sell it to some greedy ***hole that's only buying it to make mony on it.

Well, who knows, may be I'll win the lotto befor you sell it

Let it run here for a few weeks to see if any "friends" have money. If not sold by then, hit ebay and see what happens. Just make sure you open bidding to the Europeans in case anyone with serious money wants it.

thanks for the advice B5 and oldfar, I will do that. I believe that it's tough to overvalue a rust free body that's mostly untouched and 100% complete, it will sell. It's just a crappy time of year, and I do know that exchange rates are bad, the market is off and the Europeans are worried about a self-inflicted avalanche of folks who will end Western Civilization within 50 years, so importing a 1960 Chrysler may not be their highest priority at present. Sad but true. Either way it'll have a good home be it with me or someone else.

Thank you very much for taking such a good stand Andy. I find you to be one of the very few serious people left in ths hobby, as well as being so on here. Mony is important to most of us in order to have food on the table, a roof over our head and to pay our bills. If you get along fairly well on those matters, you don't need to sell off something you love just for the mony. Now, I've been into this hobby for more than 50 years, (by the way, oldefar means great grandfather) and I have seen over the years how my hobby have turned from pure hobby into pure business. And where there are mony to make, there are allways crooks. I have been a member of the WPC Club, Inc., for more then 40 years, and I founded the first "REGION" outside the U.S. (even before Canada) 40 years ago (40 years anniversary this year of 2016) and have seen the prices raise from a couple of grand for a really nice forwardlook 2 door hard-top to 10 - 15 grand for a scrappy, rusty 4 oor sedan. Judging from the pics you posted on here, I do belive that your '60 New Yorker is worth your asking-price. As of the maket-price for such a car as your '60 NY today.

On the contrary to other's opinions on here, that wish you good luck in selling it, I wish you bad luck Hoping you will be able to finance your other dreamcar without selling this one. And then use the '60 NY for sunday cruising with friends and family.

old fart (a guy on here gave me this name because he didn't like my opinions to much, so I thought I'd just keep it for fun )

That's a wonderful car. I hope any buyer will leave it alone. Good luck!

When I sold my super solid rust free '58 I had a lot of hot air like Einar mentioned, a bunch of BS tire kickers.
Then I sold it for far less than I had in it to a guy in Sweden who claimed that he loved it and wanted to finish restoring and take care of it. 2 months after he got it to Sweden he flipped it for over 3 x my price to him. Stuff like that almost makes you want to give up the hobby.

I feel your pain firedome. Been there and it's not pleasant but hopefully you'll adjust and get over it. No matter how hard one tries, you can't undo what's already been done.

I have to admit that if I sold a car to someone, then I found out they on sold the car for more (especially if it was overseas), I would feel a bit peeved at myself for not trying harder, but really, whats wrong with someone making money on a car

Just as a rough example, this Chrysler on Gumtree over here
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/warwick/cars-vans-utes/1960-chrysler...
is $30,000 AU, so if I was to but this New Yorker for the $10,000 US, it will cost me about $18,500 AU by the time its here (using the USATOAUS web site as a price reference based on a 70 Lincoln for $10,000 ish US, about the same sized car), so, assuming I could then get the $30,000 AU for this car, there is around $10,000 AU profit to be made on it

I admit this is all pie in the sky (as I dont have a lazy $18,500 laying around), but would doing this make me a bad person, I hope not
A lot of people make a living from doing this
If I could get 3 times that amount, even better, but unlikely (the market is not strong here), but the advantage of getting it here and then offering it for sale is that (generally) theres less of a barrier for someone to inspect it and have it niggle away at their mind until they must have it

I think this car is great value and if I was in a position to buy this car (especially if I was in the US) I would buy it and put it on Ebay or clean it up a little and try the high end auction road

Thing is with all classic car speculation, its a gamble, so it could backfire, but I think if this car went onto Ebay with a $10,000 reserve it would be sold and for at least another $5000 on top

Nice car! My excuse is that it would cost two grand to ship it to Seattle and it doesn't have the swivel seats.

So I've had more flakiness than I can account for, from four different "buyers". Never in my life have I experienced this kind of nonsense.

Is it the world of tail fins that makes people kooky? I've never had this much trouble selling a car, let alone had four people say they want it, ask intelligent questions, agree to tentative prices and then vanish completely! I have been as reasonable, honest and transparent as possible and I'm very friendly and professional on the telephone too!

I've bought and sold in the muscle car realm: 1971 Charger 500 w/383-4, 1971 Charger SE w/ 440, 1971 Charger SE w/383-4, 1972 Satellite Sebring, and also some later cars in the form of a 1978 Dodge Magnum, 1985 Gran Fury AHB, and a 1977 New Yorker Brougham with 30,000 original miles doing it all with NONE of the flakiness I've experienced here.

The dang car comes with literature, some spare parts, and an owner who will help you get into a car hauler! WHAT MORE CAN I DO!?

IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE WHO ISN'T... I don't know what, come take it away before March 1st and it's yours for $9,400. If you're one of the prior parties, please don't bother.

Sorry to hear your having challenge's Andy. It's a very nice car at a reasonable price. You will find the right person. Tax's are due and March is bonus month. Money will start flowing and hopefully your future buyer will call. Best of luck.

My guess is that the "buyers" only wants to turn the car around and earn some $ on it - when they understand that the car was priced right and there's no profit to gain, then all interest are gone.

The right buyer would buy the car because he love and like it

I agree with Sven. 10k is the value for the car, is funny to think that sedan were always more expensive than 2dr when new. Of course when you have a family you understand exactly why you need the extra doors..

Andy, I know what you mean, one of the BS'ers I mentioned above was probably the same "prior party" right here that you're referring to.

ttotired: there's nothing wrong with making money on a car, except when you buy it more or less under false pretenses after going on and on about how much you've been wanting one to restore and keep thus bought it very under valued under that assumption, heck, I even helped find many parts needed, just to find out that it was flipped virtually immediately after arrival overseas. In the 45 years I've been in the hobby it's been totally corrupted by greed. I'm about done. Of course being old and ill I'm about done anyway LOL.

Just the way things are
I dont really give a hoot what happens to a car after I sell it, although its nice to know that it would be loved, but if they buy it and then squash it, its theirs to do with what they like

I wouldnt discount a car on what a potential buyer tells me, except if they show me my value is to high, then I decide if I want to let it go for that much or just keep it

I had someone offer me 2 grand for my plymouth, that I thought was way to low, especially for a car thats rare as rocking horse poo here, so its still here and a new direction is being planned out for it

To the seller, if you havnt yet, chuck it up on ebay or cl and see how it goes

I guess wizard is right. These people probably were flippers, who realized that they can't make a profit in this deal.
Hopefully soon you will find the right buyer.
Reading your story and the confusing story about the Christinized 57 Fury I am getting really upset what shall I have to face until I manage to buy the Forward look car I am looking for.
Good luck with the sale.

"just the way things are" ... oh, you mean the prevarication? Sorry, it shouldn't be. I guess I trust people to be honest. Silly me.

I hope the seller can either keep this NYer or find a fair and honest buyer.

I very strongly hope that this car is not going to a "raggare". These guys are getting some real nice cars for their "pilsner-wagons" these days. I also hope very much that it will not go to someone that's just going to resell it to make mony on it. A car like this deserves to got to a real enthusiast.

Keep an eye on www.classiccars.se This is where people advertise cars and parts and other stuff from all over the world.

OK Rolland, here we go: A "raggare" is someone that just uses the car to drive around with the car filled with people that do nothing but drinking alcohol getting real drunk, yell and scream, piss all over wherever they may be, fasten stuff like i.e. rabbit-tails, cat-tails, etc., etc. to the radio antenna mast and usually disgracing the U.S flag by fastening it to the hood, roof or trunklid letting it hang there until it's nothing but a piece of rag. Some times even using it to wipe their *ss whenever needed somewhere on a meet-ground.

A "pilsner-wagon" is the car the "raggare" use for drinking their pilsner (pilsner beer) and whatever alcohol that may be available.

Hope this is a satisfactory answer to your question Rolland.

If not, I guess "wizard" should be the right person to give you any further info on your question. I mean, since he is Swedish.

As for the car, it's certainly in the best of hands. We've all seen on here what kind of work Jan Fridberg do. Wish I could afford to bring my '60 adventurer to him for some work. But as I am not a millionaire, just living on my low Norwegian government pension, that's just a dream. A shame tho', since this car have been sitting in the garage for 34 years without being used and only have 68 K miles on it.

Oldefar.

Well, it's a long story, the cult sprung out from bikers in Sweden and a raggare (greaser) was normally working in industries, wharfs and other type of heavy works. When this cult rolled in over the Swedish country, the "normal" population stared with horror and loth over the ruined youth. The raggare got a reputation of being gangsters and chriminals and fornication everywhere. You might perhaps say that the raggare was loooked upon as Hells Angels, but the truth is that we where normal hard working guys that liked US-cars and partying. Very few where involved in criminal activities. There was of course fightings occationally, but it was fair and normaly between two guys. Our language was of course crude spiced with a lot of swearing and cursing.

I'm one of the second generation raggare and started hanging around the older guys, with a respectful distance when I was 11...

Heres a video (sorry, in Swedish) that shows somewhat what it was like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUAVDBJfIWw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBi7XCHtRPQ

Heres some examples of pilsner-wagons which would be something like beer barges, car body beated up, interior f..cked up, Engine, trans and brakes good. These cars are used for hardcore partying

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the support and positive discussion.

Yes, the car is going to Jan in Sweden, he has been a scholar and gentleman and it was a pleasure working with him. Or, I should say, Jan, it has been a pleasure working with you. I believe that the whole thing was a good experience in both directions.

I believe it made it safely to the port on Saturday morning, and I hope it crosses the ocean safely.

I was always a little leery of sending a piece of our history overseas, but I cannot imagine it going to a better or more appreciative home.

Two thumbs up.

-Andy
