So I just lost my starter on my 61 Windsor, and nobody in town sells a direct replacement. It's a 383.

Where should I look for a new one? Right now, I'm looking at either having a guy in town rebuild it, or buying an after market from Summit/Jegs.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer new/remanufactured/rebuilt over used.

I'd get it rebuilt locally if the shop has a decent reputation.

He does. I'd just rather find a direct ready-to-go replacement as they're usually a bit cheaper. Usually.

From my experience, parts store starters are rebuilt in a factory environment and the customer becomes the tester. A good local shop will spend more time and give the part individual attention, that's why they cost more.

If you want a direct copy then that will be potentially hard. if you want a modern replacement, then Summit Racing, Hot Heads & Powermaster sell the best small but high torque starters.

Didn't your dart originally use a starter relay?
