After selling 7 in Europe and 4 at Carlisle, I have still 7 plastic retainer strips left and for sale. Material is grey PVC, very durable but flexible. They are bare, without any coating. So for the final finish, they have to be painted or foiled. I used normal car foil, looking good.

Please read more and see more pics in my headliner thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=58121&posts=10&highlight=headliner&highlightmode=1#M482766

Price: $85 piece / $170 pair
Shipping: $50 approximately, depends on where you´re living.

I´m still working on the retainer strip end caps. They are already 3D printed, but need mirror chrome coating. Due to the shape, they cannot be foiled.

Update: Sold all the remaining strips to Sweden. Seems there is no more interest, so I will not make them again.

I will be interested...... in the distant future, though, as I don't have my car home yet, and it needs a total restoration.

If member Mikes2nd has success in reproducing the strips as an extrusion profile for a good price, I will not make them again.

Please also refer here http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=59388&...

But maybe I can provide you with the end caps that I´m working on.

I have made 3D drawings, ready for printing them in a strong resin. After that they will be mirror chromed.

There will be the long and the short version available. They fit to the original shape of the retainer strips, like my reproductions above do.

As there are fix costs, the price depends on the ordered amount. Otherwise, if there is no demand at all, I will stop my efforts. So please let me know.

Hey Andy, yeah I need a lot for my 57 dodge so I looked into making the strips. I will probably have to make a big run though. 1000 plus feet or more.

I am looking at rigid plastic with some pvc mixed in so these will last forever and stay flexible. They should be perfect replicas also.

The longer end piece has a sloped curve right? Not the flat drop off?

I don't know why people reproduce these strips incorrectly. The "other" ones on the market are also incorrect and just look wrong. The original strips were made of clear material and vacuum chrome metalized on the reverse side. The result of this, when viewed from the front side, is 2 dark strips running the length of the extrusion created by the vacuum chrome metalizing being further away on the "legs".
This is not impossible to duplicate, and then they would look 100% correct instead of these incorrect looking strips that are chrome finish over the entire front side.
Glenn.

Sorry, I was talking about Fury headliner strips which are all chrome plated on the reverse side of clear material.

Glenn, you are absolutely right refering to the Fury style strips.
There are reasons why me or other people cannot replicate it this way - yet.
We do not have extrusion machinery nor a CNC milling machine. A professional, plastic processing company is needed to make these strips. These companies produce very big amounts of their stuff, mostly for industrial purposes. 90% of them do not have any interest to make our stuff. Tooling up costs and low volumes remain the problems of making parts.
I asked about 15 extrusion companies to make them exactly that way the originals look like (clear plastic). 15 said no, it´s impossible in clear plastic. 15 said, the costs for making an steel tool, where the liqid plastic is extruded through, is $5000+. At last I found 1 company that was able to make a minimum of 20 strips using a „5 axis CNC machining center“ (no idea what it´s called in English!), milled from a solid profile.
Maybe Mike has found a way to produce them economic and 100% authentic.

I will talk to them about clear plastic. I know they can do it of course.

They simply charge for extruded plastic by weight. I have talked to a couple companies, but one right next to me is able to handle it.

Its a simple design they said, so I will ask them about a clear design. The dodges are the same clear design with paint on them.

These are only usable on 2 door and station wagon cars so I am not sure if how much I need to make vs how much it will cost.

From what they said it should be reasonable. I am surrounded by manufacturing companies since im in Ohio. You can't turn a corner without tripping over a plastic or molding company...

I am also looking at having the dual antennas cast and chromed.

Will they work on a 4 door hardtop? Possibly shorter and can be cut? Please advise. Thanks Victor.

You´re right, the original long version has a sloped curve, like the end was flattened by the hit of a hammer.
Due to restrictions of the 3D software I used, I was not able to draw that 100% exact.
Short version matches 100%
Long version has also a flat drop off.

I could draw that proper slope into your file if you send it to me. Is it in Solidworks or other format?
