Hi Guys
I know there is a vendor discussion area, but want to know if there is a preferred list of vendors or vendors that many have had good luck using?
I'm going to pick up my DeSoto next week and am trying to compile ahead of time some of the items I'll need: Brake cylinders, shoes, etc.
If I've posted in the wrong section, my apologys.
Thanks for the help
Jim

........

I'd have to start the list with my no1 preferred vendor being John at Big M Auto, super nice guy, and put in a 110% effort getting a trunk floor pan for my 59 Dodge from the US to me down here in Australia.

I would have to add Bernbaum's. I know not everyone will agree, but they have a huge selection of hard parts like wheel cylinders etc.; their service is very prompt; and when I recently discovered they had sent me a 6 volt regulator instead of the ordered 12 volt they immediately refunded the full cost even though it was a year later and an electrical part to boot. For brake shoes and drum refinishing I went to Jeff Carter at JC Auto Restoration as he was within driving range in Lynnwood WA. While not the speediest, his knowledge and quality are unsurpassed.

I have done business with John at Big M auto. He is great to work with and deserves our business. I met up with him personally on Saturday Aug 29 to pick up a trunk lid for my 58 imperial. He has an awesome convertible Plymouth fury that he drove in that day. So like the others that have said start with John at big M auto for any parts needs for the body etc.

And the following can rot forever: Bernbaum, Mopar Mel.

eta: Jury still out on the "new" management at Bernbaum. Probably still a crook.

I didn't see this before I placed a $500 order last October. Still nothing

Anybody heard from George lately or actually received ordered goods?

If you order with George, you will *probably* receive your lenses *eventually*.

You can try the Swedish outfit for the next time, but I am not sure how responsive they are either. I have never used them.

George is around, as I got an email from him a couple of weeks ago. And as far as KPUSABIL, I have tried to contact them several times over the last couple of years (and multiple times in the last year) and I have never received a response. I really want to get some of the plastic they sell for the antennas, but no luck.

*Eventually* is very very close to never.

I've looked at that Swedish site before. Not much for 1956 Dodges.

Kent and Peter is doing all the work themselves and has very limited time to follow up emails. If you call them (respect the time zone) and discuss orders directly with them, then there's no problems.

Please bear in mind that it's better to put in a larger order, perhaps together with colleagues and friends.

Small rubber parts "cold molded", are not something I would recommend buy from Gary Goers, neither the lenses gaskets if they are not DIE CUT. Others seller listed in here I have an opinion that probably contradict others and my post maybe deleted or blocked. So I will keep it for myself.

Stay away from Kanter as long as you can..

If you are not a purist, it is possible to make functioning lens gaskets from EVA foam with a little skill and a sharp X-acto knife and thereby avoid supplier issues.

You might get lucky and find some parts on Rock Auto, but don't hold your breath. They do at least have an active inventory list and ship quickly if they have it.

Bernbaum's glass channel was a no-go for me. I called and he said "they seem to work for everyone else". Yeah, that's what I expected to hear. Luckily it was only $40 wasted.

George Laurie has good parts but I believe he's learned to not take orders if he doesn't have them in stock. At least that's how I interpret his no response to my emails. Thanks to Still Out There for selling me his extra set of re-pop lenses.

Restoration Specialties is all positive.

Gary Goers has saved me for sure, but yes, some of his rubber parts leave much to be desired. Still I owe him much gratitude for providing many small parts.

The best thing to do is get a year specific Parts Book for your car and let google do the work. I picked up a very good condition one for $10 at Carlisle. Some people list things incorrectly on ebay but the original part number search can get you what you need.

And I've made a lot of my own gaskets as D500 has done above. Hobby Lobby has a lot of material in their craft department.

I ordered brake parts from Bernbaum and was happy with them. Also been very pleased with Restoration Specialties. Original Auto Interiors is much better than SMS. They don't have everything but worth a try, service is prompt and helpful, they had the cloth for my 1957 Imperial and it is a very unusual color & pattern specific to 57 Imperials.
