OK so I've ditched the idea of using a later model 727 trans behind the 301 in my 57 Plaza. It has the 6 cylinder (dead) with the 3-speed manual (good) now. Will this 301 bolt to the manual trans? Any idea what parts I'll need to source?

The 57 3 speed will fit behind the 301 but it (and even the V-8 trans.) were very weak. Mopar did not use a HD 3 sp. until the BW T-85 in 1960. When I bought my first 57 Fury, it had been converted to a manual 3 sp. and I broke several of those early trans. with just a 318. Of course, I was pretty hard on them.

The V8 trans has a higher 1st gear and more robust syncros.

Not sure the syncros are heavier but I used to strip the teeth off first gear and the cluster on a regular basis.

Beyond the trans durability issues, the bell will be an issue unless it happens to be drilled for both block patterns. The flywheel is ok if the L6 is a 230.
