Sure. The Pertronix only signals the coil to collapse the field resulting in a spark. It's the vacuum advance and centrifugal advance that govern when that occurs. |

Agree with Pete, the Pertronix attaches to the old points base plate so is managed by the vacuum advance directly via the base plate and centrifugal advance via the distributor shaft.
As far as I know, they only make a conversion for poly dual points base plates and not the more common single point base plates ( for unknown reasons )

I installed one in a '62 aluminum single-points distributor several years ago. At that time, it was my understanding that they did not make a kit for the 1961 and older cast iron distributors |

Location: bishop, ca | The Pertronix "Ignitor 1383" system will fit/adapt to the 1953+ Hemi/Poly engines.
The Pertronix electronic ignition system requires that a dual-breaker cam-and-plate be used.
The cam-and-plate can be provided from a derelect dissie, but it must turn freely.
There are two types of 53-61 distributor: short-shaft ( 3 1/2") and long shaft (4")...so, confirm which style/type
that you have.
A good disssie doc will take 'it' from there, for you, as has been discussed at some length, in many other threads on this subject.

Location: UK | Unless you want to keep the stock look, why not drop in the pertronix plug and play distributer? I got one for an LA for my 318 poly and it comes with different springs and (I think) different sets of weights too. Obviously I'm not sure of fitment on other engines. |
