On the way to a dinner party last night, I was VERY surprised to spot this beauty sitting in a parking lot. A '59 Fury is a SUPER RARE sight here, deep in the land of Ford and Chevy! "STOP THE CAR!", I urged The Hubbins. I found the owner at work at a nearby business.

The owner bought this all-original Fury from an elderly fellow who just wanted to find the car a good home. The elderly fellow wasn't the original owner, but he had owned this car for a long time. During my rushed conversation with the new owner, I could have sworn he said that he had bought the car for $8,000.00. I could be mistaken...but I do know that he got a deal. I am not quite sure if he was fully aware of the really great, and comparably rare find he had acquired. He just really liked the car. During our brief conversation, I urged him to join this site, so we might be hearing more from him some day.

The new owner had documentation to prove that the car only has 16,000 miles plus change on the odometer. He drives the car to work occasionally. He started her up, and the 318 purred like a kitten.

The original seat covers are still in place and in great shape. The original interior is intact underneath.

The original trunk mat is in very good condition.

The missing piece of stainless from the rear, driver's side was in the trunk.

The dash was in amazing shape, and the radio worked.

The "Sam Swope" dealer plate on the trunk is also a bit of history in itself. Sam Swope started his car dealership in Winchester, KY just after WWII, and this Fury was bought from that dealership. It burned down years ago, but Mr. Swope went on to open many car dealerships around Kentucky. He recently passed away at a very ripe old age, and died a very much respected member of society, which I dare say is not always the case among those who sell cars for a living. I met him in 2011 (he had to be over 90 at the time), and he spent a whole afternoon driving me around in his brand new Chrysler 300 to some of his dealerships in Elizabethtown, KY, showing me some of his very impressive collection of classic cars, just because he knew that I was interested in old cars. Nice old guy...and still a really good driver at the time.

Anyway, please enjoy these photos - I hope that they can be of some use to those attempting to restore similar Furys.

The new owner said that he was thinking of keeping this car in its all-original state, and I urged him to do so for all I was worth.
(BTW...we were late arriving to the dinner party, but I brought cake and champagne, so no one seemed to mind. )
.

Wow! Thanks for posting these!!!
Looks like it's a well optioned Fury with the deluxe wheel, sport deck, torqueflite, heater, power brakes, power steering, rubber bumper guards, dash pad (which has been replaced) and some other goodies. Have to dig out my 59 stuff for all of it!

Agreed...it was really difficult to not just come out and make the present owner an offer he couldn't refuse...but The Hubbins was present so I had to leave my checkbook in my pocket.

BTW- here's a link to Mr. Swope's classic car museum in Elizabethtown, KY where the displays are occasionally rotated. There are more cars in the collection than there is room at the museum. Best of all, there is no charge for admission, unless someone wants to donate to the cause.

I almost bought that blue DeSoto seen on the site's Home Page.

Beautiful car! I have that piece of trim missing on the drivers side rear quarter end, if he wants it I will donate it for free to him to help preserve this nice car.

Lovely survivor car! Replace the faded carpet and detail the engine compartment and I'll bet you could sell it for 12K easily. I really preferred the 1959 Dodge styling over the 1959 Plymouth (and I have had both) but this car I could love.

I don't see a VIN plate on that car anywhere?? My '59 has the tag affixed to the firewall. So where is this car's plate??

Polish/rub-out the original paint (one time and very carefully, as OEM paint pigments can be fragile), but leave-
alone the OEM carpeting...fading and all...

I really appreciate the OEM condition of the interior trim, including the stainless steel pieces at the bottom of the 'B
pillars, as they are usually seen to be in worn and corroded condition.

Miss Belvedere should have come out of her vault, looking a lot BETTER than this Time Machine!

If only....her vault had been well and truly sealed up.

Right I saw that...But what I'm asking is that some of these cars not come with the metal plate thats commonly found in the door jamb? It seems that only '59 cars had this inconsistency. My '59 Belvedere has the metal plate normally affixed to the door jamb right above the master cylinder bracket.

The '59 Savoy I just got has no VIN plate either...just a body tag similar to this car. The DMV does not like that.

That car is almost identical to my first car... only mine was a metallic blue. The same options, too I paid $700 for it. It was the poor subject of me learning auto mechanics. I broke more stuff on it than I fixed. But, it made it from Boston to San Francisco and back without a single complaint.

With respect to the metal VIN plate by the driver's side door hinge, for whatever reason the 1959 Desoto Firesweeps have the two holes drilled but no plate has been found to have been installed in the location

In that most sweeps were made at Dodge Main, are the 59 Dodges similar?

Austin, the VIN plates on 59 Plymouth's could be on 3 places.

I have seen Evansville (3) build cars that had the plate metal plate in the door jamb and some that were on the cowl. Evansville build plymouth never received data plates.
LA build cars (4) had the data plate at the passenger side cowl close to the hood hinge and the VIN was on the cowl.

Detroit build (6, like this one) only received the combined plate. They never had the shiny metal VIN tag.
These mostly were attached on the firewall next to the brake master cilinder.
Newark (5) build cars were pretty much the same as Detroit build cars.

Hey, welcome here! It is a really nice car! Reminds me of my former 1959 survivor with 40k original miles that I sold last year. It was green too!

As for that trim piece, consider it a welcome gift! I'll send you both sides, so you have a spare for the other one. Just send me your mailing address by PM and I'll get them shipped to you.
