I will update my thread under members ride after I install it back on my '61 Belve. This wheel when seen by others will be talked about more than anything else I could have done to this car. Its a bit pricey but worth the wait and $$$ SPENT.

I sent the wheel in with the copper horn ring and turn signal cancel ring still attached. These parts came back with the steering wheel in a plastic bag. I had another aero steering wheel for reference to install these 2 items. The horn doesn't work nor does the turn signal cancel. The horn relay may be bad. I'm not sure about the turn signal not canceling. I'm going to drive it a while till I have time to pull the wheel back off and fix it. If anyone has a wheel restored be sure and clean the 4 horn switch screw holes. I screwed in these 4 screws and the last one that I tightened broke. I pulled all of this back apart and was able to grab the broken screw with some vice grips. I'm lucky that it didn't break off flush with the steering wheel hub. Here are my latest pics.

Will.

I got my wheel back yesterday...... and it is just gorgeorus. Better the new. Recast with modern materials and carries a 10 year warrenty. I've got $1500.00 invested in it including a NOS large horn bar. The small center horn button is original to the car.

Although it was a big chunk to drop on it, I couldn't be happier. I have every piece of trim for my dash either NOS or refinished now and this wheel will be the crowning touch.

Hey Dorsey.

I removed all these parts before sending my wheel and I photographed them before removing. If you get stuck i can send the pic's for a reference on reinstalling yours.

ALWAYS ....... run a tap into any threaded holes on a part that has been rechromed. In fact, It is a good idea to do this on anything before reassembly.

There are 2 ways to cast these, 1 peice or 3 peice (factory)

The 1 peice casting will be cast all in clear plastic and the centre of the wheel will then be painted out, the other was is like factory and only the clear sections are cast clear, the centre section uses a coloured plastic (thats slightly opaque)

The 1 peice is obviously much quicker and easier to do and only requires 1 mold, the factory way requires eithe 2 molds or blockers, so 1 plastic at a time can be poured

I am trying to do it as a 2 peice but I am concentrating on getting my car done first, then I will try and make a dodge wheel and if it works, I will try a 60 plymouth wheel after that, I dont have any more to work off

If it all turns to rubbish, It was fun (sorta) trying to do it

These wheels were stripped and the rim chrome plated, It looks like the clear was cast first, then the center. the center is not painted but molded in color.

The workmanship is magnicificent.

Unfortunately Don has sold the business and these will likely be the last two wheels he reccasts. He said he will help the new owners with the transition.

Does anyone know what a simple 1-color-black re-do will cost, for 57-58 Dodges steering wheels?

Not sure, but it should be cheaper as air bubbles would not be such a concern as in clear wheels so long as they are not in the surface

Rockerarm
I was not critisising thos wheels, I have seen the wheels done both ways and that is why I want to do mine properly (clear then colour)

I have a 60 plymouth aero wheel thats NOS and the coloured part is more opaque than what those ones look like, but that may be part of the reason that mine is still around as it looks like the core moved in the casting process and one of the arms running out to the rim would be only about 1mm under the plastic and is quite visable

I hope when I get around to doing my dodge wheels they come out as good as those ones
