Veteran Posts: 142 Location: Cloquet, MN | Alright, Holidays are coming, i dont have storage or time anymore to fix this thing. Its dissassembled but mechanically intact so itll drive on a trailer. comes with everything that was included last time i listed it on here-i need it gone. Misplaced the title but i applied for a new one today, its clean. car has rust but not as bad as ive seen some of you guys fix. Check out my other threads for pics of the car. Missing passenger inner fender (i dont know where the hell it went to) and one "firedome" 1/4 script, and 1 of the verticle trunk trim bars. Passenger 1/4 and rocker cut out, new ones included. $1500 or trade for 50s-early 80s drivable truck or plow truck. Im sure the aluminum sport tone trim is worth a chunk so if it doesnt sell im gonna start parting it out-PM for details.

Veteran Posts: 142 Location: Cloquet, MN | Sale Pending to a fellow MN gentleman. Im going to miss it, but once my garage is fixed (roof caved in last year from snow) ill have room and finances hopefully to buy another fwdlooker. Im a much better mechanic than i am a body man, ive learned. or maybe im impatient.

Regular Posts: 89 Location: Hastings Mn | I'll get her picked up this weekend if the weather cooperates. I really didn't need another project but, this one I couldn't pass up. It had better be a long winter so I have enough time to get started on it. Maybe my kids will support me in a style I would like to become accustomed to, then I would have enough time.

The last 58 Desoto coupe I bought that was in texas , I paid with paypal while I had the guy on the phone , its not hard !

Elite Veteran Posts: 692 Location: Los Angeles, California | Not hard, but unexpected. 2000 miles and lack of a garage and yard to place the car does make one hesitate if you can take on a project such as this. I don't exactly have all the knowlege to takle such a disassembed project. 4 Years ago, I saw this car on my first drive.... https://fbcdn-photos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/v/t1.0-0/96921... sadly the owner would not sell her, desipte being untagged for 3 years. Both him and the car vanished a few weeks later.

Regular Posts: 89 Location: Hastings Mn | I'll definitely get the welding and body work done this winter, but probably not the paint. I have a paint booth that I bought last spring to get up and running. I'm not much on posting as I don't spend much time on the computer but I'll keep you all up to date. I think this car needs to stay pretty much as built. Grey with a black top if I read the posts right.

Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Frank: It will be fun to see it all come together! To me, it looked like the PNT code on the data tag is AXX, which would be black roof and Pearl White body. If the data code is AKK, that would be a black roof with a Dove Grey body. The more I look at the data tag, I think it was originally a black and white car.

Location: Parts Unknown | This is such an interesting car. I've been chasing 57-58 DeSotos now for 40 years and I've never seen one trimmed out anything like this. From the low glass roof to the subtle colors to the spring special side inserts, this car would really stand out, even in a crowd of surviving 58 DeSotos ! I would love to know the backstory on why this car was built this way ... special order per a buyer's instructions ? I dealer ordered car gussied up for the showroom turntable ? We'll probably never know, but being so unusual, there must have been an interesting reason/s.

Regular Posts: 89 Location: Hastings Mn | Well, I have decided to sell this car. While the car is repairable, it needs trunk lid, hood, fenders, a door, trunk extensions, left quarter (right quarter is cut out and a new one included)and lots of work. I just have too many other projects that I would prefer to work on that don't need the time to chase down parts and fix that this car does. The car is at least out of the snow bank and under cover. Price is still $1500 and I could deliver it if you are on the way to AZ- CA from MN in January for a small fee. Hopefully it will go to a good home.

Maybe I could retire then. Hopefully the car will get the attention it deservers. Thanks to all who responded.

Elite Veteran,, James Passed away March 2021, He will be Missed Posts: 1028 Location: Melbourne, Australia | Glad it sold to a good Home frank . And to "Stock Hemi" , the car is (was) $1500 for a 58 Desoto coupe . There would be no need for photos , its a bargain , just buy and ask questions later ! People really do make me laugh with their expectations these days .

Regular Posts: 89 Location: Hastings Mn | It is staying in the USA and was bought by a member who says that he is a good body man. It is a good buy if you have access to parts and willing to do a lot of work. The car is not for the faint of heart. It is a major project worth the effort if you really want a 58 Desoto. While I want a Desoto because I don't have one and the price and closeness of this car were great, I also have other projects that I'm working on that would suffer. I will let the buyer disclose himself if he wishes. Thanks Doc for the chat the other day.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1112 Location: Wild Wonderful | Yes, you are looking at the same car. There is a lot of rust on this car. The previous owner started cutting it away. He had already ordered a new panel for that area. But I am the one that has to weld it all together again.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7400 Location: northern germany | wth?! i've never seen a quarter panel rusted away that high. cut way WAY too high. good luck welding it back together again.... i think you will have to find a complete quarter panel for that car, door to taillight.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1112 Location: Wild Wonderful | I have a new replacement panel from classicparts4u, but they need to have some extra work done to them to make them look good. I also have a parts car if it's too bad.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | My experience with my former '58 DeS is that anything from Classicparts4u is real crap, needing a lot of work to be useable. There used to be a guy in CT or RI (forget which) named Bob dba R-Car that made some real quality panels, but not sure if he does it anymore.
