Expert Posts: 2119 Location: atlanta | Well I almost purchased an agricultural enterprise ( bought the farm). Last Friday I had more than a few whiskey's and of course the more ya drink, the more ya smoke, passed out to bed about midnight, just a typical start of a typical weekend. Anout 7am the mext morning. i'm tossing in the bed wondering how long this hangover is gonna last compared to Thursday's, so I'm laying there and I hear something like a truck backing up, (dee-doo dee-doo dee doo) and I'm thinking, that didn't sound like it was ouside, I'm not dreaming, damm!!! it's in my head? I get up and smoke a cigarette and make some coffee, let the pups out, and this is making me wonder what the hell that noise was, then, BINGO!, I have a pacemeker/Defib, but, I didn't wake up all night, maybe it's a low battery, maybe it's a faulty Defib, anyway, all I know is my head ain't hurting half as much as I expected, don't taste no dirt, got enough cigs to last me most of the day, good football game today, I'm ahead of the game Mister! I start thinking about that noise/alarm and wonder if I can find any info, I go to the Medtronics site and find two sound files and they are labeled High Alarm, and Low Alarm, click on High, nope that;'s not it, Low alarm, BINGO, that's it, but it didn't say what the alarm was for. Another cup of coffee and a few more cigs, wonder what that was all about, can't be that important, I mean, I'm a strapping 68 year old about 35 lbs overweight, pretty much eat what i want, two heart bypass ops, type 2 diabetic on insulin, hernia op, gall bladder op, smoker, drinker, Hell, I'm ahead of the game Mister! Damm, I cravin' one of them breakfast burrito's from Sonic, it's Saturday, so there's nobody to call about the alarm, doctor's are all on the golf course, but, what the hay, the hospital is down that way, I'll stop and see what they know about this alarm, cause I don't want a false sense of security if there's something wrong with this pace/defib, I might have to use it one day to jumpstart my car or sumthin'. I stop by the hospital and tell them the story, BAM!! right to the emergency room, outta my clothes into the ol' backdraft gown, heart monitor, IV site, BP machine, O2 machine, take a blood sample, and they call a Medtronics tech to come interrogate the pace/defib, He gets there about and hour later, hooks up and say's, " It's the real deal, Your heart went out of sync three times, and You received three shocks, the next shock would have escalated the intensity, Your a lucky man, no defib and Your dead, I can't believe You didn't feel it." Straight to the floor for two days and then they traferred Me to ICU because of a couple of weird heart beats at about 3am Sunday, two days in ICU, then back up to the floor, and yesterday, out the door. I'm not gonna preach, We all know the deal, for Me, I have three pups that think the sun rise's and sets on my golden ass, I have a half decent car I would like to drive at least once. I ain't saying I'll never smoke again, I ain't sayin' I'll never drink either, but I don't have the luxury of good health and a young age, I do know that the same thing applies cigs and whiskey, as it does to cars, money, women, and that is, "Ya can't smoke it all, Ya can't drink it all, Ya can't have'um all, Ya can't do'um all, one things for sure, this ain't no game and I sure as hell ain't ahead of anything, Mister! peace/out Edited by fenix 2014-11-14 3:09 PM

Location: Parts Unknown | In 1964 the U.S. Surgeon General (finally) officially confirmed the health damages caused directly from smoking. At 68, you would have been 18 at the time. That was 50 years ago. I presume you were both smoking and drinking at the age of 18, as most get started with that stuff in their teen years. As someone who has seen opened up bodies and looked at the damage to organs caused by substance use and abuse, all I can say is it is a wonder that this stuff doesn't croak a guy out after very little exposure. To his, you are a testament to the body's ability to keep on flying, even though the pilot keeps shooting holes in the fuselage. I look at smoking like pouring used diesel motor oil down the carb of your favorite car, crossed with accruing a large credit card debt. Sooner or later, the bill WILL come due. Plain and simple. If the use of known health problem causing substances is worth the end game payback, then no big deal. Who am I or anyone else to tell people how to enjoy themselves ? I DO have a problem with the expenses, ... as all that medical care ultimately drives up insurance or gov't medical program costs. Afterall, this is a CHOICE we are talking about. Yet it is NOT a CHOICE for everyone who has to pay for the choices of others. Hope you get your situation under control and have no more issues. I too want to see that Plymouth on the road, and your dogs need you.

Location: Parts Unknown | I was most impressed by our dear old Uncle Walt when he made the comments of what a dope he was to ever start smoking. Funny how we see ourselves as "bulletproof" when we are young and have never known terrible sickness or watched our friends fall apart. Only when we follow in the footsteps of so many that came before us does it really sink in about this stuff being bad for ya. And by then, it is usually too late. The human ability to rationalize bad ideas is amazing. Been there, done that, thankfully not as deep as some, but plenty to look back on and say "What the hell was I thinking ? !" I guess it is just a human thing. With intelligence comes the ability to talk ourselves into all sorts of stupid stuff !

Seriously, fenix - I'm really glad to hear that you are still with us - you are one entertaining old fart, and I mean that in a good way. Please stick around for many more years to come. CLEAR! Expert Posts: 2119 Location: atlanta | Well, the hooch don't have no real name that i know of, i call it "be Carefull" cause that's the last thing he's says when he pours it in the bottle, i just get an old Coka-Cola bottle full at this old junkyard down on Smith's Store Road, sometimes i cut it with Everclear to "water" it down some. Still ain't smoking or drinking, eating like a horse and my sleep pattern is screwed up, i do feel better already.

Location: Parts Unknown | Good for you. I second Rosy's comments about being an entertaining old fart and don't want to lose you. Although referred to as a "normie" by 12-steppers, I am intimately familiar with the program and what goes on "inside these rooms". Due to such exposures, I marvel at the way those getting sober will remark about how good they feel. I have asked many, and the uniform answer has been that they never realized they were feeling that bad ! From a spectator's seat, I find it hard to believe that sucking burnt, tarry smoke of any kind doesn't make one instantly ill, let alone not croak a person out on the spot, yet some people can do it all day long for decades without croaking from it. I suspect anyone freed from all that toxic chemistry in their system would feel better once the "jitters" subsided, but really feel for, and am amazed by how those using such substances can go for years/lifetime never really realizing how good they could feel. Alcohol, at least in a state of abuse is pretty much the same story with more drastic results, due to its intoxicating nature. Anyhow .... good for you, Amigo. Hope you get all patched up and have good health till the end.

That's from Foerst Gump, I've heard it many times, but for the life of Me I don't understand the meaning, maybe if Your stupid ya do stupid stuff?, or the more stupid ya are, the more stupid stuff ya do?, makes no sense to me, seems self explanitory

Similar to saying judge people by their actions, not their words. Well, who hasn't done something stupid, so we're all stupid? stu·pid (stpd, sty-) adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est 1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse. 2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes. 3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake. 4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied. 5. Pointless; worthless: a stupid job. n. A stupid or foolish person. [Latin stupidus, from stupre, to be stunned.]

Expert Posts: 2119 Location: atlanta | Thanks for the thoughts, still no smoky and drinky, sleep is suffering because I don't know if I'm gonna wake up dead or alive, so I'm apprehensive to lay down at night. Actually JT, the tech didn't save me, he interrogated the pacer/dfib the next morning and told me what had occured. I'm on a new medicine to help regulate my heart, never feel to good anymore. The ragtop just sits in the driveway, looks like my help has abondoned me, I paid half down on the interior and now the guy won't answer my calls and all i have is a back seat done, the paint and body man hasn't been in about a month, again, I paid more than half up front, what a trusting idiot I am. I'm sick of dealing with people and getting screwed, I've lost interest in the car again, just focused on staying alive for my pups.

Location: North Australia | Don't stress about the car. it'll be there when you are ready. Keep in mind you have entered into a contract with those blokes you have given money too. Keep at them until you get what's owed and what you need. Just remember to play nice....until they get nasty anyway. Have you showed the dogs the above email? They might not understand your level of commitment if you don't Head up and shoulders back my man, there's work to do! Just remember its a marathon, not a sprint! Steve.

He has a bigger problem than his car. I'm not being insensitive to his situation, all I needed was to read the first couple lines on the thread to know this person has a mental problem. Catch ya later.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | I to have medical problems, All I needed was to wake up in ICU with tubes coming out of or going into every orifice on my body to know that things were going to change in my life. I found out that I died for about 3 minuets and no longer have lungs that work. I now exist with a oxygen bottle strapped to my back and a hose up my nose. If this person knows he has a heart problem and still smokes and gets drunk, don't look for sympathy until you get control of yourself. Your survivor will take care of your car. Catch ya later.
