| Will a 1957 Plymouth station wagon with a 301(?) V8 powerflite transmission fit a 1958 Dodge Coronet 4dr. sedan with a flathead 6cyl. and powerflite?
In case I'm not clear, I want to put the 1957 powerflite transmission into the 1958 Dodge that has a powerflite transmission.
Is this just a bolt-in?
Thanks, Ed.

Location: Perth Australia | I will stand to be corrected, but I am quite sure that the bell on the 6 cyl one is different to the v8, not sure about the torque converter ect, but the guys that have changed from a 6 cyl to a v8 engine have had to swap the complete driveline (from what I have read)

Location: North of the 49th | I took a Powerflite from a six and installed it behind a V-8... works fine so I can't see it not working the other way. Keep in mind if the Powerflite in the Dodge is completely launched (as in metal and friction material in the pan) use both the convertor and the trans. If by chance the Powerflite is water cooled you will have to flush the trans cooler in the radiator and the cooling lines to the transmission or your work will be for naught.

| Both powerflites are air cooled.
Planned on leaving the bell housings and torque converters on the motors and pulling the 4(?) bolts that hold the trans to the bell housing and swapping then like that.
Is that even doable?
Trans isn't destroyed I'm just having a strange shifting problem when it's warm and turned off that it doesn't want to shift into high when you start driving again. I recently acquired a parts car for a different project and thought, if they interchanged, I would try this transmission before I give up and turn my original trans with the shifting problem to a transmission shop.
Thanks for the replys. |

Yes you can pull the transmissions away from the bell housing by removing the four bolts etc. If you can, fabricate two "guide" bolts for use on the top two bell housing bolts to remove and install the trans (slot ends so you can remove them) this way you'll prevent damage to the front seal, Torque convertor hub and drive sleeve on removal and installation. |
