Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | If you had the IBM card you could see the region and if it has any special order codes. More than likely it wasn't sold at a dealer but an executive car. A friend has a 300F that was a promotional car so it has odd codes for region and dealer. Since it's listed in Darryl's book, does that mean it's a ram car? I was just comparing the floor in the '61 Belvedere and the 1960 Chrysler and noticed it doesn't have the mounting holes for the power seats.

Member Posts: 46 Location: Fraser Valley, BC | Any idea why my car’s dealer code has someone’s name and location listed rather than a dealership name? I’ve been baffled by this for years. Would this be some sort of private sale direct from factory or an executive car perhaps? (IMG_1272.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_1272.jpg (104KB - 133 downloads)

Many dealerships have the owner's name in their names.

Also a bit blurry, an ad in Jacksonville College Guiding Light yearbook. Wow! Thanks for that In all of my google searches over the years I've never been able to find any record of a Chrysler-Plymouth dealer in Jacksonville, TX under that name. This has to be it. Perhaps the middle initial is a typo on my copy of the build documentation. Now if only I could find an address for this dealer I could google street view to see if there's any evidence of it left.

Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10163 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Frank E. Beckett Co. 701 Van Ness Ave, Fresno CA "Frank E. Beckett (1894-1963) was a prominent business owner inFresno, the San Joaquin Valley, and the surrounding Central Valley counties, in which he operated Dodge and Plymouth dealerships. He was a member of the Fresno County Planning Commission and owned interest in the California Inland Broadcasting Co. Beckett’s automotive businesses dominated the intersection of Van Ness and Mono streets." "As early as 1932, he (Frank E. Beckett) owned a Dodge dealership at 700 Van Ness Avenue and later expanded to a second dealership at 701 Van Ness Avenue that operated until 1960. Beckett’s truck department appears to have remained at 650 Fulton Street until 1962. By 1964, the property was occupied by the Crockett Equipment Company, which leased and sold equipment and vehicles. In 1970, the company came to be known as Sandy Crocket Dodge auto dealer. W.A. “Sandy” Crocket had purchased Fresno’s original Crocket De Soto-Plymouth dealership in 1938 and acquired the Dodge car and truck dealership (probably from Frank E. Beckett) in 1963. In 1967, the Crocket’s Dodge dealership was named one of three Dodge sales leaders in Northern California. In 1970, the Sandy Crocket Dodge dealership was purchased by Norman K. Harris and renamed Fresno Dodge Inc." 701 Van Ness Avenue was constructed circa 1946. The original building permit was not located; however, the property is known to have been the location of a gas station until at least 1940, possibly 1944. The current building is shown on the 1948 Sanborn map. Frank E. Beckett Co. was the first occupant of the building. As early as 1932, he owned a Dodge dealership at 700 Van Ness Avenue, directly across the street from the subject property. He also owned a truck sales and service facility nearby, at 640 Fulton Street. The gas station that had been located on the subject property since 1928, and was originally owned by P. J. Hicks, and later by Beckett after 1937. It is assumed that Beckett improved his interests by demolishing the gas station and constructing the current building in the mid-1940s. It was then used as an auto sales and service facility, with a large showroom across the front, until 1960." REFERENCE: https://www.fresno.gov/darm/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2016/11/Hist... Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Just got the build record for my 1960 Imperial custom. It was ordered from Geil Motor Co. in Oceanside, CA. Dealer number 52999. Haven't found a great deal of info on the dealership but Gene Geil bought the local Dodge-Plymouth dealership in 1946. Found ads looking for mechanics as late as 1969. He died in 1992. The building at 802 S Coast Hwy (originally 802 Hill Street) is still there as a Uhaul rental center, which I've been to in the past, but is slated to be torn down for a new project.

Ludington Motors would only be one of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_Ludington Cruise down Ludington Street in Google street maps and you might find a suitable building. There was a Ludington Motors at 1636 Ludington Street in Escanaba, Michigan. In 1957-1959 at least it was a Pontiac-GMC dealer. Added Buick in 1960. Here's an article from March of 1960 announcing the addition of Buick, mentions that they were a Pontiac dealer for 17 years. Don't see any connection to Dodge. Looks like the Dodge dealer there was Riverside Auto Sales at 2511 Ludington St. Looks like they were around until 1977 at least.
