Can anyone suggest a tool or method in removing the body side trim on a sport suburban?? I'm assuming it uses the same clips as the sedans and hard tops..???? I don't want to screw them up!!!!

Pull your interior panels first and look really closely at the inside of the outer panels, some have nuts inside, others are made from spring steel that must have been left over from when they made the tortion bars (really hard to release)

Get some wooden pegs with the spring in them and pull them in half (work well as wedges) and pry the strips out a bit and put a peg between the strip and the panel and work your way along the strip, your trying to put even pressure along the leanth of the strip

A lot of those spring clips are going to be rusty and wont just pop out, so a lot of patience and care will be needed.

I use a 1" wide stainlees paint scraper thats got a bend in it for a lever

I cant stress enough, look for the bolted on clips first, get them undone then gentle gentle with the spring clips

I guess I am going to need to follow these hints with my 56 Dodge Custom Royal. Peering into the door cavity, for the mid-moulding (the one that separates my light blue from the upper dark blue), I see clips coming through the door in probably five locations. They are probably PN 1695561 Clip but I can't confirm via a photo.

Not sure if this is going to help you or not but here goes.

Here is my car (56 Dodge Custom Royal) and the following is what I have learned about the trim (so far):

The reference diagram comes from the 55-58 Mopar Parts manual pdf that I have mentioned before.

The annotated diagrams should help

Thanks. I have the parts book and the scanned page. The photos of your trim and clips from your car are VERY helpful.

Any idea what the part number of the "Aftermarket Spring Clips" is. Likely Auveco brand. There are many of those currently working in my car (when disassembled once again, for a proper re-paint) but I haven't found where they could be bought.

See my other thread for a better version of my above post in this thread:

To answer your question, I got them from a local old car restoration retail store (they had them in bulk). They were sold to me as GENO-2272 1"x1" Moulding clips. When I just went to GENO's website to look for them, I found a link to "their" full catalogue which was this:

http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/v2016/index.html

A search on 2272 turns up this:

http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/v2016/index.html#?page=358

That should help you (and me)!
