Hi All,

I'm sad to have to bring the news of the passing of our friend Walter Bower:

"I regret to inform you that Walter passed away on July 29th, 2014. He finally lost his battle with Cancer, but he went out swinging like a champ. If you would be so kind as to notify the folks on this forum. He loved and cherished the friendships he was able to create through your online forums.

Sincerely,

David J. Bower (odb77 -at- cox .dot. net)"

Really sad news Dave, although I never meet Walter, he was a friend of mine. May the light shine upon his family and relatives during their grief and difficulties.

Dave, can you change the user-title or 'rank' of a deceased member so everyone can see the member is unfortunatly not amongst us anymore on the forum, also in case someone unaware still tries to PM or contact that member?

Bummer. Walt was a straight shooter. I liked him.

This whole getting old thing sucks. Walt's honesty about his lifetime of smoking
and cancer was admirable. Walt, it was good to know you.

The world is short a wonderful man, that I had the pleasure of meeting just once, but I felt I had known him forever. I am not on here as much as I used to, and it is guys like this that I miss interacting with. He was one of those car guys you meet, and you can talk for hours about your old rides and the feelings you have when working on and driving them. He will be missed.

To All, thank you for your kind words. I am the youngest son of Walter Bower or "Walt" to his friends. Today was a hard day as we remembered him and all of his accomplishments in life. I have been blessed with the responsibility and privilege of being "BUD's" caretaker for the rest of my time on this earth. I have joined your forum and hope that I will get to know some more about my father from some of you who knew him. Once I get BUD home, I will keep you updated as to his progress and eventual road worthiness.

Welcome, Dirty.

Many of us gave old "Uncle Walt" a hard time for laughs down in the sewer. He dished it right
back and I can't think of anyone who did not like your old man. I liked him because he was more
about fun than the actual cars. All I ever knew was his internet personality, but he seemed like
the kind of guy I'd be happy to have as a neighbor.

Dunno if this will work, but just searched for all 1955 Dodge posts, on all threads:

I was heartbroken to have heard from Jeff that Walt had passed. I, too, had thought his cancer was in remission since the last time we spoke a year ago or so. Walt was a tremendous help to me when I had some stumbling blocks regarding my 55 Desoto that I purchased from Oklahoma. Walt and I kept in touch since then, and he even sent me a few parts along the way. Thanks, Walt, for your friendship. You will be deeply missed.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear of Walt's passing. Deepest condolences to all of his family and friends.

I never met him, but his wonderful personality came through in all his posts. He also messaged me when I found out where my Chrysler was sold new - as his younger brother was a lot porter at Reinauer Brothers Chrysler dealership at that time.

Godspeed Walt! You are missed.

As I write this, I have wet eyes, a lump in my throat and a hurting heart. Uncle Walt is a friend I have never met, but really wanted to. A lot of memories come to mind. It was I that first started calling him UNCLE Walt..He was like a Uncle of mine. He sent me a Secret Santa gift for someone here on the forum. He wanted to make the gift-ee scratch their head at the Post Mark; ,Gravity, Iowa. I sent him a trunk mount Air cond. for his Dodge project. Don't know if he ever got it workable. SO many entertaining post's he made here. Privet messages to settle my attitude 8-( We had talked about having a FL gathering in Kansas City.

MO, that gift-ee was me! I was scratchin' my head for weeks about that! I think I have called him "Uncle Walt" since that very Christmassy post! I too, never met him in person, but wished I would have. Walt seemed like such a good fellow in this electronic world - I am sure he was a hundred times greater in person.

i took the first two week vacation i've ever had (as an adult), and just got back in monday (8-11--14). in checking posts, i noticed i wasn't seeing anything from WB3. i was about to make a phone call when i saw mo's post down below. not only was uncle walt my FL buddy, he was a brother at the bar (which everyone here knew). what you may not have known is, he grew up in britton, oklahoma, about a mile and a half from where i grew up. britton was absorbed into oklahoma city back in 1950, and the high school where my brother and sister graduated was built there in the late 50's. i felt a very, very strong connection to walt, and am unbelievably saddened at the news. david, you had a heck of an old man. welcome to the forward look network, and may we have the chance to reminisce one day soon!

I am so very sorry to hear of Walt's passing. I have not been around here in a while so now just saw this post.

I just sent him a text a couple days ago and was wondering why I didn't get one back. My family had dinner with him and his wife a couple years ago when he had our National Hudson Car Club Meet in Oklahoma City. He was such a great guy and I will miss him dearly. We are slowly building our son's '56 CRL and I sure loved looking over his '56. What a beautiful car and anyone could see how much he loved his car. He also cared much for this forum and all the folks here he told me when we were visiting him. I will treasure the time we spent talking cars then. Our family's thoughts are with your's Walt. Rest in Peace my friend.

Here is the picture from Walt's obituary notice.

Walter was a graduate of John Marshall High School and the University of Oklahoma, where he earned two degrees, a BA in history and a law degree. He has been a practicing attorney in Oklahoma City for thirty-seven years. His last day of work was two days before he went into the hospital. He had a lifelong passion for automobiles. He enjoyed racing sports cars in amateur races as a member of the Sports Car Club of America. He spent many happy hours restoring antique automobiles in his free time. Walter lived a full and wonderful life. He loved his family and his friends.
