Alright, gotta ask cause i cant find any pics of them stripped without 1/4s. On 58 desoto/chrysler/etc what does the outer part of the wheel tub/well look like that welds to the 1/4? i know its curved but im wondering if it has a lip/bend to it to fit the conture of the wheel opening on the 1/4s. I ask cause mine literally are rusted away

It would be the same as most cars really

The wheel well will come down to the folded in part of the wheel lip then fold in towards the centre line of the car to match the inner lip

Its then spot welded around the edge.

Just think how they would have assembled the panels, the rear quarter would have been sat onto the inner parts of the body work and probably taken 5 or 10 minuits to weld on.

It is very hard to re create that lip as its a multiple comound curve, best to try and make it in small sections and build it as you go.

To repair mine, I fixed the quarter panel first, then repaired the wheel well after that, filling in the gap.

If you havnt yet, take the rear springs and axle ect out so you have as much room as possible to play.

Once done, I sprayed a lot of body deadener inside to seal it as best I could (you cant see where it ends up, so just drown it)

Oh, and take your time as its almost impossible to beat out if you warp it and the reason I did the outside first is to make sure the quarter is in the right spot, because if you get the inner wrong (in or out), it will alter where the wheel lip is.

Hard to do, but if I can do it, anyone can

Here's a '59 Plymouth wheelhouse from a convertible. The wheellips are the same, though.

Very nice work, my convertibles will need about the same amount patched, if not more.
