Location: Cape Cod, Ma | Can anyone recommend a good transmission shop that is known to be familiar with old Mopar transmissions in MA? The two quarts of transmission fluid on the floor of the garage when my 58 sits for more than a few days suggests to me that the front pump seals are likely gone. I'm on the cape but i'm happy to travel a bit if someone can recommend a good shop who knows what they're doing and aren't going to rake me over the coals price-wise. Thanks |

| stay away from any name brand trans shop , they suck, there thieves, and the don't have a clue on how to rebuild these old trans, ask around , u need an honest guy that has a small independent shop, even if u need to ship it off to some one, I now have a guy, a complete rebuild of my 60 904 TF 240$ 240$$ YEA , I gave him 400$, iv had both my 60 and 61 904TF rebuilt by this man , and they are rebuilt perfect, im set for life , |

| <p>yes sir 240$ one thing i dont do, is lie, for the good or the bad , it only needed clutches, gaskets, seals, valve body rebuilt, and everything put back together, then bands adjusted with compressed air, but I took it out and I put it back in ,i did give him a 160$ tip , cause that how i am when u treat me right i do the same , I had my other 904 rebuilt at a franchise, brought it in , "no problem $700", put it back in, KABOOM !!! rear sprag busted up and destroyed front case , im still not sure what they did to it but the rear sprag was put in back wards , the franchise acme trans 01610, gave me the run around, serious run around, would not, no guaranty, because I put it in, had to buy another 904 from freemans,, my guy took the busted 904 and the used 904 and made one good one 160$ I always hang my middle finger out the window at them, 'ACME' yes they see me , when ever I happen to drive by the place , the only satisfaction i can get out of them ,very painful experience, as im sure others have had , so find the right guy stay away from name brand transmission shops , peace</p>

| j & s transmission, north grafton ma 01536, my guy is BERT, he works with me at the PO, he fixes the mail trucks, and I break them, all I can say, if u want your trans rebuilt or newer trans for that matter, he is the GUY !!! only problem might be finding the hard parts, not sure you will get my price, but deff cheaper than the name brand shops , and will be rebuilt right, merry Christmas !!! |

Location: Perth Australia | Are you sure the front pump seal is gone?
Quite common for these to leak out of the kick down lever shaft hole and/or the selector cable
When parked, the oil can drain back from the converter and overfill the transmission and make a mess
If you can, I would clean and dry off as much of the trans as you can and confirm where its leaking
If it is the front pump seal, you dont need to rebuild the trans for that, it unbolts from the front of the trans (so trans out anyway)

Location: Cape Cod, Ma | Yeah definitely no reason to rebuild but still need to drop the trans to do front pump. Thanks for the input everyone. I was able to get this issue sorted out and while the transmission still leaks a little bit, it is nowhere near how bad it was.
Having said that, if that guy in grafton will rebuild a trans for that kind of money I definitely will be in touch with him next time I need one done on a forwardlook, I definitely appreciate the lead. |

| <p>if I was u, pull it out, its not that bad of a job iv done it 3 times on my 61 with in the last 2 years twice when it broke, another time when I put the wrong TC in, it was the TC from the used one, made a ticking sound, and I just pulled out my 60's 904 few months back, bert would not rebuild it, until I got a crack/broken alignment/stud hole welded up on the case, he was afraid the front pump would get messed up in the future, city welders in 01606 did the aluminum repair, there also very good ,aluminum repair is a tough weld 160$ to weld up a crack/brken alignment stud hole , im very happy with the work, not a drop of fluid, clean</p>
