I have purchased some scarce 1960 Imperial parts for cheap on ebay. Seller did not know what he had.

I won some NOS 1960 IMp crown fender emblems (crown emblems and crown letters) for $35.

I just forked out $50 for 1 NOS front blinker park lens. Not cheap, but it is the only one I have seen so far (years of window shopping!). And for some reason I had to have it.

Also got ball joints, tie rod ends, and rubber parts for bugger all too.

What is your best score on ebay (or wherever)?

Steve.

My best eBay parts score for the scarcity and the price was by far a N.O.S., immaculate Canada-only "CHRYCO" 1957-58 Jiffy Jet washer bag that I bought from a guy in Western Canada for 15$ with the "buy-it-now" option. It is now installed in my car.

Best swap meet score was this last fall at Hershey: a complete 1958 Plymouth dash cluster, wiriing harness and all dash switches in good condition for 30$.

...but best parts score overall in my life was finding an old warehouse full of good Mopar parts ranging from the 1930's to the very early 1960's which the guy was (and still is) liquidating before his sister throws everything in the trash. I got most FL parts out of this warehouse and many fellow members here now own very good parts that came from this place. I'm glad I could save these from the trash and that they are being put to good use.

The funniest buy I ever made was at a wrecking yard near Yakima. I had pulled an 8-track player/
seeker radio out of a 69 Olds 98 sedan. They used the same parts for their Cutlass/442 installations,
and those guys were paying large. I got the whole bucket of pieces and wire harness for $10 and had
loaded it in my truck (we were on a wrecking yard tour and I had a truck load of parts at this point).
The yard owner came out with us and was chewing the fat, when he spotted my just-purchased 8-track
and said to me "You know what that is, don't you ?". I said "Yeah, a complete 8-track/seeker for a 69
Olds". He then informed us that he had a restored 442 and had been looking for that system for YEARS !

He asked if I would sell it, and not wanting to be a douche, I said "Make me an offer".
He offered $400.

In Chicago, 1994, I saw an ad in the classifieds for a bunch of Mopar speed parts including a 'crossram'. Yeah, right. So I went over and the guy had a pile of stuff his lovely wife was making him get rid of after many years. It included two Edelbrock STR intakes with 3 tops, a new Holley Dominator carb, a complete short tube longram intake setup from a '63 300 (no air cleaners), a magnesium M/T 8-3/4" third member, and some other pieces I have forgotten. I bought it all for $600.....he was a cool guy and we talked about hanging out some to talk about Mopars but his wife overheard and put an end to that.

A year later I sold the mag M/T for $600 and had guys fighting over it.

Anyway...he had bought a loaded black w/ red interior '63 300, rusty but running, and pulled the motor to put in his Dodge truck. The crossram setup gave him troubles so he replaced it with a 4 barrel. I asked him what happened to the rest of the 300 and he said 'One night my buddies and me towed it to the spillway and left it there'.

I was at a swap meet early when guys were still unloading their parts. Found 3 NOS 58 Ford headlight bezels. They are different from left to right and the boxes said 2 L, 1 R, bought all 3 for $30. Then I discovered I did not have a pair, but 3 lefts, I ebayed 2 leftovers for over $300, waited and looked and bought a NOS right one for $80.

The lady selling my Chrysler had a friend type up the ad. He misspelled it as "1957 Chyrsler" so I think it didn't get the traffic it could have. I paid a fair price for the car, but I didn't have a lot of competition for a complete, well-optioned and rust-free '57 NYer coupe.

A fellow forwardlooker GAVE me a hodgepodge of Mopar parts, including a fresh '69 383HP block, powdercoated wheels and whitewall tires, a power '59 Imperial swivel seat, and quite a bit of '59 Dodge stainless trim. It also included a police car light bar and a bunch of aluminum trash cans! You know who you are, and I still appreciate the generosity!

Not actually an ebay score, but...

At a local show this past September, I was cruising the swap meet looking at a bunch of parts displayed by a vendor on a blanket. In the middle was a NOS 58 Plymouth aluminum headlamp opening moulding in beautiful condition. The vendor said that he had no idea what it was and said I was the first person to ask about it. He had been trying to sell it for about five years. "You can have it for five bucks", he said.

I may have the 'winning' story, here:

Back on 3/3/01 (still have a copy of that bid history), my FIRST Evilpay win was for a 57 Dodge Signal seeking radio ensemble.

Have not seen another complete ensemble for sale, since then.

The Dodge group requires a unique Power Amplifier Unit, or else it will not 'search'; it's the PAU which
makes the sig-seeker such a rare find.

The PAU also has a unique mounting bracket, that is attached to one of the hood-attaching studs that run
through the lower passenger's side of the firewall.

Anyway, my record shows that I got this group for $127.50 (after placing an initial bid of $150.00, and then, increasing it to $155.50, after incurring a late (but not 'sniper') bid of $125.00 on it, by DCPDFan.

Interestingly, one other early bidder on it was "Carjock"....whom I much later met on this website, after joining-
up, in 2005.

Carjock's max-bid was $97.60

My next-best score was buying a perfect-NOS 1958 Texan fin-emblem for $5bux(IIRC) at a Detroit WPC national meet
(Ronbo was there, at the time) parking lot swap meet.

Later traded it straight-up to AZ MoPar Maven Bo Malefors for a NOS, in-box, 57 Dodge plastic 'grille' emblem.

Still have that emblem.

BTW, this photo was sent to me by website member LD-3 (pre-'01), showing me what I had to go-try to find, for my ride.

I bought an NOS passenger side exhaust manifold last year for $700. It looks identical to the ones used on 58-59 B-blocks with dual quads, but has no heat riser valve. I reckon it's for cars with Fuel Injection.

Not an Ebay story, one late evening, an ad for a 64 Dodge 426 popped up, I called and the lady said it belonged to her brother who passed away, didn't run and was sitting in a briar patch next to the old homestead, price 1500 bucks. I kept her on the line as long as possible and asked many questions and general gab, the car didn't run, was a 2 door, he bought it new. I told the lady I would be there early the next morning with cash, she accepted. When I got here I found a 64 Dodge 2 door hardtop 440 model, original black car with red bench seat interior, I beat back the briars and opened the hood, nada, I said "where's the motor", she replied, "In the trunk" opened the trunk and there was a complete and disassembled 426 street wedge and 4 speed, every part was there, the only rust was by the accelerator pedal. paid, loaded, and headed home with a big ol' smile.

I guess the best deal I ever got from E-bay was when I was trying to find a good steering wheel for my '57 Fury, color was unimportant, as the car was not original, but all I found were crumbling. Another parts dealer called me and asked if I had a good '65 Ford steering wheel, and I did. I told him $85 plus shipping, but to keep an eye out for the Plymouth one, so I described it to him. A week or so later I get an e-mail with links to several different E-bay auctions from him, and one was the exact steering wheel I was looking for, in colors to match my car. It was listed as Dodge-Ford-Lincoln old steering wheel, and looked to be in nice shape. Opening bid was $5, but I put a $500 proxy bid on it, as I really was down to needing it.

The auction ended, and the wheel was mine for the starting bid of $5 plus shipping. Darned thing turned out to be NOS with just some minor shelf wear. Never had that kind of luck since.

Last November a black/white '57 Windsor 2dr coupe went up on a 2day listing on Ebay. Super short. I was the second bidder at $1080 and won it. Finally got it home, the 354 motor runs ok and included a new water pump & newly recored radiator. It has whitewall tires in excellent shape, all the window rubber is good, the trans works and the car is driveable after replacing the gas tank & brake lines. Still needs floors, outer rocker & lower quarter rust repair, and interior, but that is pretty cheap for a nearly driveable '57 coupe.

I picked up my '67 formula S Barracuda for $2k on Ebay 6 years ago with a 340 motor, 4speed, 8 3/4 & pretty clean California body. I replaced the radiator, carb, exhaust & timing cover and have since put 40k miles on it. A very reliable & fun car to drive. I don't know what it is worth, but a lot more than $2k.

I saw a craigslist ad for a 392 hemi in a boat for $1k. Turns out the motor was recently rebuilt but wouldn't ever run right. It included original Chrysler 300 valve covers, old MT timing cover, dual quad intake, & a bunch of aftermarket stuff that I don't remember. Turns out the reason it didn't run right was a large vacuum leak from a bad gasket seal. I sold most of the extra stuff for more than I paid for the whole thing and it is going into my '56 Plymouth with the bottom end untouched from the way I bought it as soon as I can get around to it.

Great thread!

My best find was a '55 Dodge La Femme purse. I was looking for a gift for my wife and found the purse in almost perfect condition with all of its goodies (change purse, lighter, comb, lip stick, compact). I won the auction for $300.

Two years later I was laid off from my job, so we listed the purse on eBay. It sold for $3000.

Have had a lot of them over the years.
This is the most recent.
Bought a NOS Mirror off Ebay for $0.99 since it was local I drove over and picked it up.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1773071NOSACCESS-TWIN-STRUT-FEND-MOUNTED-MI...
Turned around and sold the mirror on Ebay a week later for $430
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MoPar-NOS-fender-mirror-1957-1958-Chrysler-...

Recent changes in Ebay listing a searching are making it harder to find these poorly spelled listings.

I hear ya, I think that manifold I bought made up for all of my bad dealings. Except for highly overpaying for some of my cars, like for my Plymouth and Edsel wagon, but I tend to buy with my heart...not with my brain.

Not quite a part for my car, but...

Back in the depths of the Great Recession of recent, a super rare radio popped up on Evilpay! Now, I have collected vintage vacuum tube radios since 1988, and I specifically collect Philco products. I had searched for one really rare model for several years: the Concert Grand. It was a really large, ornate console Philco made in 1930, that had a cabinet built to fit into the corner of a room, with a record player on top, and record bins that flip out of the sides. Since they cost several hundred dollars back in the day, Philco only sold 300 of them.

Anyway, one popped up for sale, out of a Texas estate. I placed the opening bid of $500...and waited...and waited...several days went by, and...nobody else bid! I got it for $500, plus the shipping. All told, by the time it arrived here in the snowy north, I had a little over a grand into it, and that was half of what I was willing to pay just to buy the radio!

I sits proudly in my library now.

in 02 i put an ebay bid on a 318 nos starter of 10$ . as days followed i'd look for similar starters , there were none at the time . i don't know why i did it but i tried every which way
to bring up the part i bid on , it wouldn't come up . it seems the part was somehow buried in ebay and my bid listing was the only copy put out . i won the bid for a nos
starter for 10$ . after i paid i tried bringing up the item again , still it wouldn't come up . yes after paying , i got the starter and my feedback was recorded . at the time a nos 318
starter was going for as much as 200$ . so 10 + shipping was a great deal and the starter was perfect in every way .
what i did miss by only seconds was a nos cross ram dashpot with a buy it now for 25$ . the last nos one went for @ 350$ + --------------------------------------------later

ps. ebay back then , one was lucky to find a listing of 60 dodge or related parts of 30-100 total . 60 dodge clocks wouldn't even get an opening bid of 5$

I did a BUY IT NOW real "nice Pontiac radio" for $15. It is a super clean near NOS working factory AM/FM for my 1967 GTO thats worth around $600+.
I bought a NOS set of 8 AC DELCO 44S sparkplugs that are the factory plugs for my 67 GTO. A day later the same seller had another set, so I bought them and asked if he had anymore. He said he had 2 cases that he wanted to get rid of without the hassle of one at a time. I gave him $100 for both cases and I believe around $25 for shipping. I kept the 2 sets for my car[which I felt was a decent price] and sold the other sets 1 at a time for $45. They have an odd # of 8 packs per case, I believe it was 18[?]. Anyway, in the end, I have 2 sets that I wanted and made well over $1000.
Wished someone could have picked up that part for me in St. Louis a couple weeks back. It was a $200 original, complete roof rack for a 1960 MOPAR Suburban. To me anyway, that would have been a sweet deal.

I placed a bid on "dual quad intake and carbs for big block ford." This was early on before eBay offered pictures and there were none posted. I figured it was for an FE engine as they made a lot of factory dual quad units. I placed the opening bid of $250 and pretty much forgot about it until a week later I was notified that I won. What I got was a Holman-Moody aluminum 427 meduim riser intake and factory Holley BU/BT carbs with tags. I immediately sold the intake for $750. I kept the carbs for a few years and then sold them for $1500.

Two things:

1. A NOS original 59 MoPar station wagon rear accessory air mattress in the tube, complete with air line and all. The tube it comes in doubles as the air pump. Very cool, and 60 bucks or so.

2. Not a part, but a car. Member 'vedette' always posted links to ads for cars and such, and he posted a 57 DeSoto Firesweep sedan. It looked like a semi-parts car, dirty and missing the front bumper. I won the auction for $510.00. The car turned out to be a very low mileage car stored inside since the mid 60's when the motor spun a bearing. It was used as a shelf for many years and has some scuffs here and there, and the outer rocker skins need some minor work, but the interior is almost new with almost no wear. A heck of a car for 500 bucks.

I scored some FL emblems on ebay. Been chasing 1 for the grill on my 60 Imp for a while. This Imp has no FL emblems anywhere except the rear plate surround from Ely Motors, in Redwood City,( the original seller of the car. This is not on the car, as I broke it trying to straighten it out.).
I dig the FL boomerangs and wanted to fly the FL flag on the car!
I ended up with 3 from the same seller as a package. I put them together with the NOS crown emblems I scored a while ago and took some photos.
I plan to mount 1 on the grill with the crown letters.
This car has had the front fenders replaced in the past and doesn't have the CROWN word under the Imperial script. I have read somewhere the early 60 model Crowns didn't get the Crown installed, so I will mount the CROWN letters with the "Flookerang" on the grill. My car is a CROWN, by the way. The emblems I scored are in real good condition, and according to the seller are early take-offs.

What do you think?

There are 2 types, 2 with gold small boomerangs, and one with a silver one. I think 57 Adventurers come with the gold ones, where does the silver one come from, 56 Plymouth?

Steve.

I think the silver ones came in at least two sizes-- I have cast both and have molds to make them in urethane resin. I know the Spring Special 58 Plymouths had them, as did some Dodge trucks.

The truck versions are a little different though. The textured part has a much deeper texture finish to it. Makes it look and feel different. I wonder why they decided to make a different part just for the trucks. Wasteful by today's standards.

I didn't know you had a '56 Plymouth Mark. What are you working on? I have one of those as well and I have never found the distributor mounted driver in 14 years of looking. I finally decided to just convert it over to use modern style internals. Since it isn't going on a real Fury, there isn't much point to doing it the original way anyway. But you will still need the round wedge shaped piece that allows it to mount to the dash. You could fab something out of a thin pipe the right size if you need to.

Around 3 years ago someone was selling "NOS 1960 Plymouth headlight bezels" from Mexico for $15 each. I took a chance that they were real, that they were coming from another country, ect. Shipping was around $20 but I got all 4 for $75 total and they were as described and very nice.

Marc, did that tachmatch work to drive your tachometer? I need to do the same thing with my Fury tach.

Ebay scores are few & far between now, but last week a guy posted two NOS '58 DeSoto Firedome, Fireflite, Adventurer hood ornaments with no picture and no mention of the word DeSoto or any of the models. I found it by the part number only. He wanted $35 each or best offer. I bought both of them. That's a nice replacement for the pitted one that I have on my car.

NICE!

I got a set of these for $20 a few years years back. The seller listed them as CORNET instead CORONET . When I made the same mistake these came up.

The same thinking applies when searching for Cadilac or Lincon parts.
My brother in law once typed in Pontiac Lemons instead of Pontiac Lemans and a nice local red 63 conv pops up with a starting bid of 1500. Once he placed a quick bid it was too late for the seller to fix it.

Prototype "Dart" emblems for 1961. Original model clay still attached. Purchased from a seller that has since disappeared from ebay. Story is that he bought them from the family/estate of the former Dodge employee who after a little search I found him to have a patent on the 1954 Dodge grill design.

Second best, NOS interior out of Australia.

Yes. Thank you Steve! The back seat was for a four door so it didn't fit. I had to order additional material from Original Auto Interiors and have my friend stitch me up a lower seat cover. Turned out really nice.
