Now the bad news~~~~~~ Here in S Calif, there are only talk shows, and Latino stations on the AM band.
Well, NOW, I can FINALLY Listen to any kind of music I like, on that car's AM radio, FM, Sirus, or any of my vast assortment of mp3's on this computer.
Now "How did I do that", You say?
Well it took about 15 minutes of my time and $129.00 (+ $6 shipping from Wisconsin).
You wanna hear more?
OK here's the details.
You buy a device called RediRad, from Wisconsin.
You disconnect the antenna lead from the radio, and connect it to the RediRad.
You connect the antenna wire coming out of the RediRad to the car's radio, (where the antenna lead was).
You hook up the ground wire on the RediRad.
You hook up the red wire on the RediRad to a 12 volt source that is only on when the key is in the accessory
or on position. (I just spliced into the wire that fed the radio, after the fuse).
There is a very long cable that comes out of the RediRad that has a mini phone jack on it.
This jack plugs into the earphone jack on a walkman, or any portable player, even a DVD player.
(I use a Sony Walkman)~~~~~works great.
Tune the AM radio to 1000 Kcps (Middle of dial).
DONE!!!! (took me about 15 minutes).
Right now I have the walkman and the cable hidden in the glove box, but once I get a cable with a
right turn connector, I will hide it in the ashtray. (With the cable connected to the Walkman it is about
a quarter of an inch too long to fit into the ashtray.
So There You have it. How to have good sounds coming out of your car's original radio !!!all the original
controls work on the car's radio, on/off, volumn, tone controls, faders (if any), and if you turn off the
Walkman or whatever you have connected, the car's radio picks up the "regular AM stations".

Location: bishop, ca | Or, you can buy any FM converter and wire it into your radio (if you don't already have AM/FM), for AM/FM reception.
Then, you can buy a portable, small, Sirius Radio receiver which gets its power via your cigar lighter.
The Sirius system sends its signal to the FM converter, so you can listen to AM/FM/Satellite as you wish.

The Walkman is soooo small it will fit right into the ash tray, so outta sight till I opens the ash tray.

I am wondering, with all the internet - Pandora, Sirius, etc. - feeds, has anything ever been put
out there that includes all the cheesy old-time advertising to go with the 50's music ? As much as
I like my iPod full of jazz, bossanova, and Johnny Mathis, it would be that much better if it was
mixed up with all that advertising.
Pretty perverse, isn't it ?

Location: Montreal, Canada | I too am a big fan of the RediRad. I bought it way back and had it working in my 1959 Mayfair, and I kept it when I sold that one and reinstalled it in my 1958 Dodge. I LOVE the sound of the original radio and speaker. |

Location: Ponder, TX | Sirius runs some ads on the 50s music channel, but most are for discontinued brands. Even more are on the channel that rebroadcasts old radio shows, since many of them had one sponsor and it would require a lot of editing to remove ads that were often integrated into the storyline. A few individual ads are for products still on the market, but I don't know if they have to pay for them to run. |

Location: Hickory, NC | I did a similar conversion myself. I wired directly into the antenna feed of my radios and added an AUX jack to the radio case. I could then plug in my MP3 player and the function was the same. The original radio still functioned. And when your music device was turned on it wold override the antenna signal and play through the original radio. You could then adjust the volume and whatnot from the original radio and hide the MP3 player.
The only downside is that if your original radio is faulty or tubes go out...no music!
This is a lot simpler though. And doesn't require removing the radio or soldering! Pretty neat. |

Location: Minor Hill, TN | You can get an am/fm /cd player and have installed in the glovebox. That way you can get CDs and play the tunes that were playing on the radio when the car was brand new. . I have a AM/FM CD player in my 1961 fury I listen to CDs in it. I can also hook up satellite radio to it. I had an FM converter in it before but it did not pick up stations that good when I put the CD player in it picked up FM stations alot better |

Location: Yorba Linda, Ca | I did put CD player in the glove box of my 93 Allante, but I want to keep the glove box clean for the Owners manual and other important stuff for the 58 Chrysler, + It's a pita to reach over and change tracks, adjust the volumn, change to FM from CD if the player is in the glove box. I did not like it, so I found a better way on my 59 Dodge, and in the Chrysler, the player (Sony WAlkman) will be completely hidden away in the ash tray. It has a very long cord, so if you want to put it on the seat beside you, No Problem.
I was around when these FL cars were new, and also enjoyed tuning the AM radio to the great songs of that time, and I continue to
listen to that kind of music on all my cars.

I am bringing back this older thread because I want to both thank everyone's patronage over the last 10 years and address two questions:
- about which music devices will work with RediRad. Short answer is, almost everything with a headphone jack (even so-called 'smart' phones!).
