Expert 5K+ Posts: 7205 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Wow that brings back memories. I bought an NOS one in 1980 and installed it in the dash of my ex-Polara. In the picture, you can see the template in the photo, lower right, you have to lay that on top of the dash and mark the hole. I did that with a lot of trepidation, let me tell you. Since there was no room to use my electric drill because of the angle of the windshield, I used a hole saw connected to my socket driver and cut the hole through, very very carefully. The dash metal is soft and it didn't take more than 7-8 minutes to hand cut through it. The mounting holes for the clock are cast into the top of the dash from underneath, and the wiring harness was there ready to connect the clock. Of course, I also had to drill the other small hole and guide hole to mount the adjustment knob bezel, to the left of the column down below. Fun! Expert 5K+ Posts: 7205 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Sold, $365.00. The clock in my ex-Polara still works - since my installation in 1980. It doesn't always run, but a tap on the dash board will start it up so it's due for a cleaning. On the other hand, I had a quartz conversion done on my Saratoga clock a year ago last summer, from Jeff Carter, JC Auto Restoration. Edited by imopar380 2013-10-14 1:14 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | with the way the movement is set up , my thinking is a quartz most likely won't work . an electromagnetic reset from a 61 buick clock works 100% as a perfect fit replacement and is built stronger than the mopar one . if it gets oiled again , use a non hardening clock oil ---------365$ was an excellent deal and i hope it had little to none shelf wear -----------------------------------later

Guess you're talking about the FB/EK Holden clocks there Mick ?? One supposedly NOS one ( without orig box/instructions ) sold on Evilbay a few months back for just over $2000 !!!! To another clock story now .............. ................... I got the buy-of-the-century a week back......... Paying for my fuel at the local service station I spotted a NOS clock beside the credit card reader.......... Last one left @ $9.99 !!!! and was the rare as rocking hoss sheet factory original electronic conversion too and to top it off it had the optional multi fitment wrist band. Paid with my last 10 dollars in my pocket, couldn't get the cash out quick enough, there could have been clock pickers around just waiting behind me to snipe.......... Now displayed proudly on my arm every day, gets heaps of attention at car shows. Couldn't be happier ... ........... Edited by VAN HELSING 2013-10-15 2:07 AM

Stylistically, the DeSoto dash had to look somewhat different from the Dodge dash, so they shrouded the speedometer on the DeSoto and put in a different clock, used different dash knobs and different aluminum facia trim from the Dodge.

New User Posts: 4 | Does anyone know if these clocks light up? I have seen other examples recently on Ebay and it appears as if there is a hole in the bottom where a light bulb socket would attach. Just wondering. I recently purchased a 1960 Polara Sedan that is in amazing original condition, but does not have this super cool clock. I have found an nos one just like in the photo posted by imopar380. They want a KING RANSOME for it, so I just want to make sure that all the wiring is in the car or supplied with the part before I take the plunge. Also, my car has a dark grey dash and the seller described the color of the clock as dark grey (before I told him what color my dash was) so wondering if these were painted at the factory or delivered paint to match. And finally, is the bezel painted or left natural. Thank for the info. I have learned a lot about my car reading these forum posts!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | yes they light up and yes they are rather expensive . what you probably won't find with the clock is the trim ring that secures in the clock hole in the dash before the clock is attached . there's is also a length of wire (2) that connects to the clock wires that run to the power block about in the center , under the dash . if it's nos it should have most everything , set cable , dash bezel and wire but it won't come with the hole trim piece . the painted parts should be the cap and the collar around the clock below the viewing window . if you don't have one and correctly machining the hole can be a chore , you'll need the dash insert with the hole and attaching screws also -------------------------------------------------------later

YOu can see it in the photos I posted above, the red dash board. They all come painted a dark gray unless factory installed, so I painted the top of mine red to match the dash color. It also came with a template to cut the hole in the dash. I marked the hole, then realized that my drill would not fit under the angle of the windshield. I didn't have a right-angle adapter for the drill, so I carefully used a socket wrench handle attached to the hole saw, as the dash metal was soft it cut through fairly quickly and neatly as well. I installed the clock, put the mounting screws in and plugged in the wire connection and it worked. Of course I also had to drill the mounting holes for the adjustment knob and bezel. I can't remember if there was a template for that. Edited by imopar380 2014-09-30 11:33 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | i've been wondering whats up with the trim rings for a lot of yrs. . the reason is a whole lot of cars that have the clocks , have no trim rings . not long ago i bought a complete dash . by dirt , dust and looking at the screws , it looked never touched . so i'm now thinking that maybe the optional clock add on's , some never got trim rings for whatever reason or why would anyone remove a clock for whatever future use and not remove the trim ring with it . i know of at least one person that has been looking for a nos trim ring for 25 yrs. but has never come across one . both he and his dad are and were parts dealers thats bought out quite a few bulk old dealerships . me , i lucked across a trim piece still in an insert dirt cheap and a lot of begging . there was a time i would have paid 100$ just for the ring itself , still like to find/buy a couple . like trying to find live dinosaurs ------------------------------------------later

That photo was not my clock package, it was just a downloaded photo of the current Ebay auction that this thread started. My clock originally did come with the trim ring in the package. I bought it from a classified ad in the WPC News in 1980. I can't remember what I paid but was likely around $30.00 - I know it was not a fortune, even then.
