Hi all, sorry for not posting here too much, , fairly busy with the Christine club.

However, thought I would share with you guys the news.

Jeekay, a member here and I did a deal on his glorious 58 plymouth.....this was formerly the car that came from Aaron (C-300), was taken care of by George, and has now passed to me to take care of her.............

Im very happy, she arrived today after her long trip across the country........

You can get a permit (not sure about today though) that you can say that your taking it for repairs for future licencsing

I think its about 20 bucks and you can do it online or over the phone

I would check and see if the inspection places are open this morning, might be able to get it over today (if your lucky)

Your repair places are all over perth, god knows where you can get "1 of those things" fixed today

Maybe one of your friends or relos might know of a place, you could drive over to their place and ask, no point in wasting a phone call

Hard 1

I have always just ran on normal unleaded

I have never used the addative, but it might be a good idea

I have had the heads done on mine to suit unleaded (same as what they do to run gas)

That red dodge, I can garrantee will be just run on std unleaded

You don't need additive if you use a tin canister. That does the job.

cheers Clive.....that means a lot.

thanks.

I have a lot to say about this car, , good and bad things, its history is staggering, considering how well these cars last...NOT!!

I have all the documentation, books, mags, trophies that support the cars life.......one I will be happily sharing.

I took here for her first drink of West AUSSIE fuel yesterday........man, that car gets attention.

Yes, Steve, you can't put that car on any road without getting tons of attention - that's everywhere in the galaxy I believe.

Congrats......post some photos of her in the daylight please.

You can get them all over the place, Steve...

The one I've used is a Doring, made on the Sunshine Coast, but there are lots of brands. The best known one is the Fuelstar.

They have pellets of tin inside a container suspended on a steel spring, vibrations cause friction between the tin and the steel, microscopic particles break off and join the fuel that's flowing through there.

One thing I can tell you about them... no, two. First, everyone who's never used them will tell you that they cannot work. Everyone, and that includes me, who has ever used them know they do work.

The claims made for them are octane improvement, better burning and so on, but I can't say about those things. What I do know, and this is an absolute certainty, is that they stop valve seat erosion. I cleaned up a head on a Peugeot once and, because I'd cleaned up (ie. lapped in the valves, had the seats cut etc) the head there was no longer any protective coating from the old leaded fuel on the seats.

I lost 0.015" from each exhaust valve adjustment in 1700kms. I had already ordered the Doring unit and it arrived the day after I got home, once that was fitted there was not another thou of valve seat/valve wear, no adjustments were needed, for 50,000kms. I was using LRP at that time.

Then the wear started to come in again big time. I contacted Doring and they explained that LRP often had a fungus grow in it and that this fungus coated the tin pellets. Their recommendation was to dismantle the canister, soak the tin pellets in bleach and/or sandpaper them clean, then reassemble it. I did both.

I did a further 50,000kms over the next six months with no problems. Those things work!

You might have heard of the RedEx Trial re-runs they've done over the last few years? They're run by the Victorian Peugeot Club, so they get a lot of Peugeots. In the first one there was a whole heap of these cars had their engines done up for the event. The popular wisdom was, "We don't need hard valve seats, we've never had any trouble!"

So as they headed out over the first couple of days the various engine workshops up the coast were busy fitting hard valve seats to all these old Peugeots!

Once that protective coating from the old leaded fuel (last sold here about 2001?) is gone the seats just wear away. Fitting the tin canister arrests that immediately because the tin acts just like the lead used to do. It was going to be the product used by fuel companies when they were doing their research back in the twenties, but they couldn't work out a way to keep it suspended in the fuel, I'm told.

Whatever, you have my personal guarantee that they work, you don't need to get hard seats fitted if you use one, you mount it in the fuel line just before the carby.

Repco's following stores are listed on the Unique Cars & Parts website as carrying the Doring catalysts, Steve:

Osborne Park, Morley, Port Hedland, Welshpool, Victoria Park, Wangara, O'Connor and Myaree (all in WA). I've personally never seen them in any store, actually, but I've never looked for them in a store.

did the wheel bearings today, they where a little loose, so decided to pull them and inspect.

They were perfect, but needed the old grease washing out, looks like they hadnt been done in a while. So gave them a good wash out and clean, repacked and refitted. Whilst I was at it I gave the cooling system a good flush....cleaned out the hoses, heater core and block.....it was dirty in there, so a job worth doing.

Now with fresh coolant and fresh grease.......im really enjoying playing with her.

Steve

There isnt any specific club that our cars sort of fit into here, the closest one would be the charger club

I havnt been to their meetings yet (I think they are on the first monday of the month), but will one of these days

I dont really know the show scene here much, but big als poker run is one and I went to a show at whiteman park that was pretty good.

Thought of it also, but time to start and run (or have much to do with) is short for me

There are very few FL cars in Perth (that I know about)

3 60 phoenix's, 2 57/58 plymouths (including yours), 2 60 plymouths (+ one rumoured) a couple of 60 ish chryslers (1 with cross rams)
and a 56 300

Be lucky to see them all at one time

The 2 60 plymouths I know about are both under construction (includes mine), the rumoured one is a driver and is purple (I think)

But in saying all this, I have not gone to many shows and pretty much am head down tail up working on my dodge

Just saying hi again - Kate too.

By the way Kate's 350 runs just fine on mid-grade fuel with no additives.
Although her carbs are new so not sure if that makes a difference.
Your paint looks to be tons better than mine - good for you both.
I also have the 57 twin post mirrors I hope to get mounted this winter - summer for yall I reckon.
Hope things are well down there and Merry Christmas.

Hi Steve, the car is at the workshop, having major
Surgery...

The 318 motor was totally stripped and rebuilt
From top to bottom, with the original 2x4 barrel
Setup.... Silver motor with Twin Gold air filters,
Hopefully gold Rocker covers.

Brand new brakes, conversion from normal
Brakes to Original Power brakes setup

Brand new Radiator, Air con, new paint in the
Engine bay, new leads, hoses and wiring all tidy up.
Powder coated brackets and other bits and pieces.

Swapped all my Gauges, for New old Stock, all working
Including the clock which was a bonus, working
Cig lighter... And a original Mirror-o-Matic.

Radio has been taken out to be resorted to working order
And the original speakers have been re-coned. I also have
A Alpine sound system to put in, but it's going to be hidden
With Bluetooth connectivity, I have a new iPhone 5s for
Xmas and I'm going to turn my old iPhone 4S into
An iPod for music it has a 64gig for storage.

Also have the original twin double post side mirrors
To put on and the original rear Twin antenna's.
And original spats.

3 speed Transmission has also been stripped and rebuilt
A while ago, but that's fine, I purchased the car in 1988
And did the motor up in 1990... So it had a good 23 years
Run... Looking FORWARD to getting her back.

Probably another 6- 8 weeks away from finishing.

Hopefully the engine will look like this, its almost there.

The only thing I have not got is the Jiffy bag, but I think there
is one on eBay...a reproduction

Regards

Roberto

That looks like a Weiand manifold...

A local production car, it wouldn't have had any more than a single 2-barrel originally.
