Expert Posts: 2596 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Wow very nice cars (Swedish and Finish) I like Finland and they have nice car culture. They dare to push the envelope when it comes to custom builds. And good music and pretty girls Pic from 2013 when I was there at Forssa Pic-Nick (with my Chrysler) (20130804_144857 - Kopia.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 20130804_144857 - Kopia.jpg (259KB - 489 downloads)

I doubt he would feel particularly honoured to have his name associated with such an over-restored example!! On the other hand, it is a nice piece of jewelry! Expert Posts: 1906 Location: Ontario, Canada | Neil helped all of us to restore all aspects of these cars to factory original detail as much as possible and that car is restored well beyond factory detail. That is all I meant! Nothing rotten at all! Greg

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | It's difficult to express ourself chrystal clear in posts - a lot dissapears between the lines and we read in something that perhaps is not even there. I never knew Neil in person, but we had a lot of communication through emails so I dare to say that Neil would be proud to be associated to that car as well as any of the early Dodges. To renovate a car to factory appearance is in fact a very difficult task - the cars were produced under stress with sloppiness and haste that is repulsing for a true craftsman to replicate. The costs for to have the car renovated to factory appearance will for sure be much higher and the result not so long lasting - Think of all naked untreatened steel in our cars for instance. If I ever had the kind of dough that's needed for a full professional restauration, then I'd go for "all in" to a standard higher than ever produced in the factories. Just my 5 cents guys...... Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | Some people need to realize that the first time we put a sander to these cars we are doing more than the factory would do. On an assembly line they could not take their time to do things. I lost count of how many things I found that should have been taken care of at the factory. It was a job to most of the workers, they didn't take as much pride in their workmanship that we do now. Edited by ruchaven 2016-01-11 6:57 PM

Expert Posts: 2312 Location: Arizona | I think it depends on the car line. I know from reading of how Lincolns were built and finished that they not only sanded them, they applied more than one coat of paint and the final paint was both sanded, buffed, and polished. I don't know if the "low priced three" would have been sanded as a regular option but I would expect significant paint blemishes, *if caught* would likely be sanded or otherwise fixed. If lincoln did it it seems likely that Imperial and Cadillac did too.

Expert Posts: 2596 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Possible that we renovate them better than when they came out of the factory like new. But I think that many are doing an outstanding jobb. Not many who manages an extensive renovation. Many people here at Forward Look forum like to do well jobb. Have see ather classic cars ho owner cheated: filler rust with bondo and after that sold it, looks good a shortly time. Have seen too much of it. Edited by Windsor59 2016-01-12 4:43 AM

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | There's nothing wrong with an over restored car - the problem is that such a car will never be driven as it should be - it will be a trailer queen or just left in the man cave. Every chip or scratch is a drama for the owner Now, if a car is top restored, even over restored and thereafter used as it should be - the car will "age" and get a very nice patina. Only to maintain and fix the small cosmetic damages. After all, the joy and pleasure of really driving those cars is priceless
