Expert Posts: 2596 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | "Its not a secret that it was a rusty coupe when it arrived along" Looks very good, really nice 300F. (and he is honest as you say it is not a genuine conv, above seen how nice it is) You say (maby) it comes to finland for 5 years ago I remeber it comes a bad 300F cupe for abouth 10 years ago to Finland. Michael from stockholm (DeSoto 60) say it, you know him Edited by Windsor59 2014-01-14 4:55 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | Well, actually Joakim I have to correct, real F coupe was not bad at all, actually very good but 64 convertible was rusty at the bottom and rockers. It donated all possible conversion parts. He has had several F:s so this not a same F than 10 years ago. Here is one pic when it was in rotisserie. Tuo can see rockers are cut open and there are reinforcements inside them at this point. Thouse should be even stiffer than original conv structure, wich is not stiff (I know as a conv owner) Edited by Adventurer 60 2014-01-15 5:10 AM (f15 (4).jpg) Attachments ---------------- f15 (4).jpg (206KB - 463 downloads)

The picture shows me and Marilyn an afternoon in Hollywood. Everything is big in the U.S.! Will try to update the thread with some pictures from the trip (for all Swedes) and what has happened in the workshop when I was away.

I really like that photo. Where did you see the 56 Desoto convert ? Is that a museum ? Who is doing the 57 Desoto convert restoration ? The one on the rotisserie in the building ?

The gentleman and Moparman are Bob, you'll find him at Netparts, where he helps Gary to keep order. That company is a gold mine for all of us enthusiasts! Would highly recommend! The 58 Explorer is sold to Sweden ... The DeSoto conv is for sale in Las Vegas, www.autocollections.com The Rotisseripic is from copperstateclassiccars.com in Phoenix. The copperbrown 300C is from Detroit and came to Sweden since it was much discussed here on the forum. Hemi engine, Magnus, that paint color (on my confuser, anyway) is very much too gray in color. The Dodge engine color is a shiny bright light silver, but not an 'aluminum' shade (too shiny).

Elite Veteran Posts: 673 Location: Malung, SWEDEN | Good that you make us pay attention to the color, Neil I myself think that it will look slightly darker than the color from the color chart, which in turn is the right Dodge engine silver. We have to mix a new sample and compare properly. Do you know if there might be different color codes from the factory?

Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | This probably won't help much, in Sweden, but Krylon High Heat Silver is dead-on for the Chrysler Engine Silver color. Somebody with more of a Trailer Queen or a fresh restoration can send you their engine pics and/or paint brands, but here is how Horrie's 'winter'-dirty engine looks; the Silver is light and moderately shiny, but definitely not as 'bright' as "Aluminum" or "Nearest-Thing-to-Chrome" finishes are. Also, can't tell from your pic, above, but the exhaust manifolds were installed and painted in the same high-heat Engine paint. Here's a shot of engines leaving the paint booth.... F gets its power seats in place and G is waiting for fitting front fenders. The engine has a new modified layer with M1824 Metallic, a industrial heavy duty mixture very close to the original color chart Thank you for your attention Neil! The work goes on ....

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Magnus, if your Dodge's trunk suffers from "The Heartbreak of LDS" [Limp Deck Syndrome]....where it does not hold itself in any intermediately-opened position, like it SHOULD....Can you let us know how you fixed it? I have a theory wherein the vertical trunk supports might not be aligned properly, which might prevent the torsion bars from exerting enough leverage against those supports in order to keep the trunk raised. I, even, bought a set of NOS torsion bars, thinking/hoping that maybe the OEM bars might have lost their temper, and/or might have been too weak, to begin-with, but, those new bars (inserted in the strongest-rearward mounting slots) STILL made no effective difference in the LDS symptoms.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Actually, LDS was not an unknown malady, in 1957, as these two Technical Service Bulletins attest/address... Unfortunately, these fixes are best able to be done during a pre-painting restoration protocol, instead of on a post-painted nice-looking trunk. ...Note, on the second TSB, that the cause of the LDS might be due to the :" Hinges Spreading Outward". Veteran Posts: 133 | if you take the other end (not the hinge)were the torsionspring ((bar)goes, It`s the spotwelded u-profil drill it out or cut it ,move it 1/2" forward and weld it back, it put a heavier twist on the torsionbar and then the trunklid stays open,99 times of 100, guess it`s better to do do it before painting ,hope you understand..Arne

Everything on the engine block, except the motor mounts and fuel pump (and P/S pump & fan & starter--duh--), are painted in Chrysler Silver. No gold-anodization of/on carburetor, either. This is what your convertible frame/chassis should look like. Edited by d500neil 2014-03-20 6:41 PM (vedder3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- vedder3.jpg (107KB - 443 downloads)

This is what your convertible frame/chassis should look like. Would the hose connections on the thermostat housing, water pump inlet and heater hoses also have been painted? I learned long, long ago, that painting those surfaces pretty much ensures a coolant leak, regardless of how tight the clamps are. Paint is a great enabler of leak paths.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Don't doubt that for a moment, but if you scroll up a-ways, to the engines leaving the paint dryer station, you can see that all of the thermostat was painted. As for my engine, that is a replacement thermostat installed, and the coolant is weeping from around the passenger's side mounting bolt....and, from directly underneath the immediate-underside of the thermostat's 'neck'. So, yeah, my T-stat is weeping, but, I'd like to find/create a slightly longer upper hose. Paint, huh?
