Iola is here again. 21st Century Orphans is the theme. That means Plymouth. I'll have my '59 in the tent area (if it makes the trip; discovered a trany leak today but think I solved it).

Taking my '70 Gremlin too. Going to try and get in the "original, unrestored" section.
Now, when's the last time you saw a Gremlin?

I would like to go, but I am broke as a joke, and the 60 isn't going anywhere too far till it is aligned...

And its going to be hot, and Iola is in a hay field, though you will be in a better spot than I would be.

Yeah, if there were trees, it would be nicer. If I were you, I would be spending more time at the plymmie than the Gremlin. I would like to be up that way, but like I said. Broke, and a car that is bull legged till it gets aligned will keep me from it!

Another Iola is over. Made it back ok. Takes a couple days to recuperate. I had 2 cars there and a van camper so had to have some help getting everything over there and back. So I owe a few people. Needed 4 drivers, including myself.
Did you notice all the miss-spellings in my 2nd post.......a laptop on a camp table when it's still light out doesn't cut it. I couldn't see screen very well and constantly lost track of my cursor. I can now see why the smaller internet cell phones and i-pods are popular.

Did not run into any fwdlk guys there but have been out of loop for awhile so wouldn 't know anybody if I saw them.

Iola was hot, too hot. Shade was your friend. There was a burning ban in effect so no camp fires or charcoal grills allowed. It rained, I think Sat nite (lose track of time there) pretty hard, for about half hour but needed more.

Friend I was with knew quite a few vendors so heard a few complaints; it took some a long time to get to there assigned site because only one entrance could be used for all those vendors. Some said the Manufacturers should all be grouped together away from the other guys (I think they called them "junk dealers"). Very dusty roads in evening when vehicular traffic was allowed; one guy said vendors were calling for water trucks, promised, but never showed up. A few said they were not coming back next year. More than half pulled out Sat nite and Sun morning. That happens every year though. I had a good time in swap meet area. There's got to be a better way to mark roads and sites though. Sometimes hard to find a particular vendor. (to be continued)

Hey John,

I did not make to to Iola this year, but it was the same story last year. Iola is usually very hot. I know what you mean by the poor markers for sites. Hard to find a particular vendor you are looking for. Did you find any good deals? Hard to find parts? Unique cars? Did you see Dave Homestad and his 56 CRL D500? One of these years we will all have to get together at Iola. You, me, Mike, Dave, Bart, Milt, Keth... Did I miss anyone? We could have our own "forward look" tent...

Hi Greg - I looked for Dave Homestad this year in Blue Ribbon but didn't see him. I think a few years ago, somehow, you and I, and Dave, happened to be by his car at the same time. He could have been there but I didn't see him. Actually I didn't see probably 3/4 of what I wanted to see. Did not see one item (parts) anywhere related to fwdlk.

In previous years there was always a group with a huge enclosed trailer with a fwdlk logo on it, in the western part of campground. I talked to these guys a couple times in the show area but never at the campground. This year I was going to visit their campsite, but the trailer wasn't there this year.

You're right.....we could have our own tent there. Campground or swap area. Everybody chip in, cost would be affordable. If swap meet, we could even sell a few items. I think it was last year I was kidding John Bartel to organize something like that, but haven't seen or heard from John in ages.
Safety Mike.....now there's a guy with corporate organizing skills (hint - hint)

Jerry Kopecki was there (fin restoration guy from Iola) He was onstage (just for a few minutes) in Team To Learn tent, saying that now he's more into restoring "woodies" than fin cars. He had his Dodge over in the show field this year.

I am with the group in the campgrounds with the trailer with the big FL. We were there again with the trailer from Wed. evening through Sat. evening. At the tail ends of our trip, we also had a '61 300G sitting in the campgrounds (the rest of the time it was in the Blue Ribbon area). The car that came up in the trailer this year was the Black/Gold 1958 Adventurer.

I could be arm twisted into doing something like that, but only if my car is good to go and I have the funds.... Going to be out of commission for a while until I can get the voltage regulator I need.

I didn't see the trailer this year. If you guys were in the same spot, I'm just a few rows away (up by the bathrooms). That campground can be just as interesting as the show grounds. You see some nice stuff riding around and parked. When I get back to my campsite from the show, it seems I just sit on my butt. A guys got to get out there and explore
