Location: The Mile High City | According to Jeffrey Godshall, there were 4,822 D500s produced in 1959. There was no breakdown of models or body styles for that number. You could extrapolate the expected number of D500s in Custom Royal convertibles by comparing the 984 units of total production (including station wagons) with the 4,822 D500s. You may want to repost this in the general discussion section. Edited by Lancer Mike 2012-06-27 7:13 PM

New User Posts: 2 | Thank you Mike, for your reply. I think at best it would be just a guess at this stage. I have read the excelent article in Collectible Automobile ( Aug. 1993 ) and in 2004 I wrote to the magazine and posed the same question. I received a written reply from the Editor John Biel . He told me that there was no data at hand and that kind of specific detail would require combing through '' Build Sheets'' and estabished registries , etc. So I guess its a bit the same as '' Who was Jack the Ripper ?? '' no one will ever really know. Once again thank you for your reply Tony

Extreme Veteran Posts: 390 | While there are records to indicate how many cars were built according to engineering model codes & body styles, I wasn't aware that there was any breakdown for installation rates of options. The next time I see Jeff Godshall, I'm going to have to ask him what he got his numbers from. John Biel's comment about going through build sheets is probably close to the mark. The "ideal" thing would be to have someone sit down and go through all of the IBM card microfilm and reconstruct a data base of the information on them. Then it would be possible to do searches for CR convertibles w/D500. As it stands now, you'd need an exceptional amount of perseverance as well as really good eyes to spend the hours and hours and hours and hours it would take to go through the microfilm searching for the desired indicators.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | I'd expect that about 6% of the 59 CRL verts had the D500 option, or around 60 units. It would take about a month of 40-hour weeks to scroll through all of the microfilm records, such as Corp. researcher Darrell Davis (a former V.P. , with connections, and motivation) has had to endure, as a part of his book projects, to eyeball each individual IBM card, in the system. Presently, health concerns have prevented him from returning to the CHS, to complete his 1957 D501 model research (at least 10 cars of the "102" that were built, have eluded him, to date).

Hi, Kevin- Jeff Godshall did have some amaziningly specific information about 1957 - 1959 Dodges listed in his article and I wondered how he obtained those details. Specific numbers for each year's D500 production and percentages of cars ordered with power seats, power windows, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, etc. - information I didn't think existed. However, I understand that if anyone was capable of getting that information, Godshall was a likely candidate! I would be very interested to know how he did it!
